2011 MDX vs 2011 Q7

Hi, I currently drive a 09 TSX, and personally love the Acura brand. My parents are looking at a new SUV, and are coming from a 2006 Lexus RX330.
Right now they are currently looking at the new 2011 MDX and the 2011 Q7. Was just wondering your opinions on both, which would you prefer? Pros and cons? Any information would help. Thanks in advance

I considered and rode the Q7 and Q5 before buying my MDX.
Q7 was too big for my garage and handling.
The Q5 was kinda small for my butt and underpowered.
The MDX was just right.
But if there was a Q6 .....

One of my best friends had a 2010 Q7 and it was returned via the Lemon Law. He had countless problems with it, one being that all of the lighting inside the vehicle, including instrumentation, would go out. On this particular case, the dealer explained that his kids must have spilled juice in the center console (which didn't happen). I followed his whole experience and it was seriously a joke. Cruising the Audi boards will show that this experience is not out of the ordinary.

So from my perspective (as a happy owner of an MDX with 75K miles):

<<<>>><<<>>>

AUDI Q7
  • Styling
  • Performance (depending on the model)
:thumbsdow
  • Quality
  • Reliability
  • Dealer network
  • Expensive
<<<>>><<<>>>

ACURA MDX
  • Styling
  • Quality
  • Reliability
  • Dealer network
  • Relatively inexpensive
:thumbsdow
  • No S-line / performance model
  • No push-button start

You may get less of a bias opinion if you post this in car talk but the MDX does give you a lot more for the $$$ compared to the Q7. Also since they are coming from a lexus they might want they trouble free ownership of an Acura. The bottom line is they have to drive both and make a decision. Q7 is a bit big compared to a rx, the mdx seems to be a good size IMO.

awesome thanks alot guys, you guys have helped out alot.

I think we are gonna lean towards the MDX, it has a better lease rate right now, at like 1% after 6000 down, and after my tsx and a mdx, im hoping for some extras or better service from acura haha, maybe get them to throw in some new fog lights for my car as their cracked haha

2 years ago my wife and I were in the same boat. We had an '04 RX330 and were test driving every SUV out there. She didn't like the styling of the new RX and we weren't sold on the Q7 (too big) I liked the Q5 better but it was too small. Since I previously owned an '05 TSX and an '08 TL we test drove the '09 MDX and bought it right there. The only thing with the MDX is it is a little rougher ride than the Lexus. We don't regret it one bit and enjoy driving it every day!

Albeit small, this has been my only complaint after a year of ownership.
