2006 MDX with 52k miles- do I need to change timing belt?

I have a 2006 MDX with 52k miles. Went to the dealer today to make appointment for airbag recall, dealer stated I should change out the timing belt as it is over seven years old.

Looking for forum members thoughts on changing a timing belt at 52k miles because belt is over seven years old.

before my accident; I had a 2006 TL with 75k miles and I wasnt planning on changing the belt til the 105k mile service popped up on my dash.
which with my driving habits, as she's a garage queen would put me over the 7 year limit.

unfortunately, certain circumstances (a friend mis-shifting and bending valves) made me change the belt early.

if I were you; and you know the history of the vehicle (ie: not subjected to extreme temperatures including desert and sub-artic conditions) then, you should be fine changing it out when it actually hits 105k miles.

The real question is how long will it take you to hit 105K on the ODO? Regardless of miles I would get that belt changed at 10 years

I would go by the MDX maintenance schedule:

105K or 7 years - which ever come first

Not only does driving were down the belt but the simple aspect of time does as well. Think of it like this - if you were replacing your belt and the shop said if you use a brand new untouched belt that was 50% off BUT was 7 years old would you do it?

Get it changed, along with the water pump (it is usually suggested to get your entire timing belt system changed with it - with the high labor cost of accessing the belt it only makes sense to replace these as well). It's about $700 to replace the entire timing belt system - if the timing belt fails the worst scenario is complete failure of your engine. Cost benefit analysis.
