2004 MDX Randomly Shuts Off When Driving
Hello Everyone,
I own a 2004 MDX that has 130k miles on it. My car has been shutting off on the first start of the day during the following scenarios:
- Turn car on, put it into reverse, and it shuts off.
- Back out of driveway, put it into drive, and it shuts off.
- Back out of driveway, drive down the street, and it shuts off.
The car always turns back on, but it idles super low. Sometimes it will shut off multiple times before I get to the end of my street. The car appears to be fine after the first start of the day. For example, I can drive somewhere, park, leave it for a couple of hours, and then it drives fine.
Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Thank you!

Our 2006 was doing this: car was cutting power and going to limp mode. Restart cured the problem until the next time it shut off.
After some research, I found it to be the OEM Accelerator pedal sensor (which I purchased on eBay for around $140). When the Accel pedal sensor starts going out, the car shuts off as a precaution. Installation was easy. Problem has not re-surfaced (been 18 months).
