2001 Acura MDX gets hot while idle

I had an 97 Honda Accord that would do the same thing. The relay to the fan was bad and it wasn't turning the fan fast enough to cool the engine at idle. The temp would go down once I started rolling again.
It might be a good ideal to turn on the heater inside you car to max heat and full fan at an idle to bleed off some of the extra heat at the stop light. Don't want to turn a couple hundred dollar fix into a couple of thousands if the overheating causes more damage before you get a chance to take it it. I would also double check the oil (make sure it not milky in color), keep the anitfreeze topped off, and check for any new leaks on the ground or engine bay. Overheating on a +15 year old engine may not agree with it.

Stop driving the car or you will be buying a new motor. Fix this asap.
Check the coolant level? Only when engine is cool.
Check for debris in front of the the car... condenser/radiator. Also in between the condenser and the radiator.
Do the following test but only if your vehicle is not running hot.
Turn the ac on with it set at max cool with the recirculation button on while idling. See if the two fans are working and running at a fast speed. If not then you have a fan issue.
If the fans are ok then I would replace the thermostat... oem only.
Use oem coolant only.
Be sure to follow Acura coolant purging procedures.
