09 Trade in value
09 Trade in value
Hello. Want to trade my 09 MDX with Tech Pkg and 5500 miles on it in mint cond for 2011 MDX. Dealer where i purchased my 09 is offering me $34K. Do you guys think this is fair or too low? KBB Shows trade in value $37700. Thanx
5500 miles
I'm assuming it's a clean title and not a salvage, do you just not drive that much?
You're in a unique situation because there probably aren't too many comps for a 2+ year old SUV with only 5500 miles.
Selling privately is always preferable, but to make it worth your while, you'll probably want high $30Ks...usually buyers who have high $30Ks to spend want new or certified pre-owned.
So you're in somewhat of a catch-22.
That being said, an almost-new MDX is a desirable commodity in the used car universe. I would shop other dealers, including CarMAX...see what the true market is for your car and then make the best decision.

unless you normally keep cars for just 2 years the 3g mdx (~2013) will be a more substantial change.
If the dealer gave you a great price on the '11 then it may make up for the trade in value. You can probably get more selling it privately and with only 5500 miles it should sell quickly if priced right. good luck

Don't waste your time with CarMax...they lowball quite heavily (they need to since they sell the cars below KBB).
I'd suggest trying to sell privately (craigslist at first). Preferably sooner rather than later (since gas prices seem to be climbing). If you don't get any bites (which is unlikely since MDXs seem to sell like hotcakes in the used car market) you could always keep the dealer as a last resort

This is a tough financial move but at least you will be contributing to the economy!

Not really sure why you wouldn't just keep it and drive it until the kids put a dent in it, or it doesn't start anymore. Although the 2011 is better looking IMHO, what is the point of giving the dealer $6,000? SAVE YOUR MONEY
