'03 won't start sometimes unless shift lock release engaged

I have an intermittent problem with an '03 MDX

It seems like the Shift Lock Release solenoid may be failing sometimes.

When it fails to start, I don't hear the click from the shift lock. Brake lights come on in all cases when the brake pedal is pressed.

Once I engage the Shift Lock Release and move from P -> N -> P, it will start up without problem. Brought it to my mechanic a few days ago and he couldn't reproduce the issue. Of course as soon as my wife took it the next day, it manifested itself again. I can't consistently reproduce the problem.

Is this as easy as replacing the Shift Lock Solenoid?

Could this be at all related to the ignition interlock recall? ( I cannot remove my key except when it is in park.)

I blew a bunch of compressed air where the lock release is and have been crossing my fingers. But its been a month with out happening. Will definitely get the recall done the next time its in for service. Thanks!
