'03 MDX Engine Removal
So, I'll be honest, I feel like this is one of those times having a Helms/Chilton/etc manual on hand sounds like a good idea rather than playing the guessing game of what does/doesn't need to be done.
I've never done the swap, but I've read the manuals for other cars.

You can pull the engine from on top. For more clearance, have him remove the hood. He can also drop the lower cradle, if he has the room to do so. Either way works. At the dealership, we would drop the entire cradle down. Most guys will lower it with the suspension attached, they just remove the bolts from on top of the strut housing. Safety 1st. Make sure he had a good support on that engine block.
