The "Type-S" badge on my 2nd generation TL-S was stolen about 5 years ago and I have been living with 35 less horses ever since...

On a serious note, I am a bit anal, and a bit of a purist... So it does bother me that my car does not have a badge that it should have on it... But I have just found it hard to pull the trigger on a $40 badge that could be ripped off again...

I do miss those extra 35 horses...

Edit: Oh, look at that...I've been here 11 and a half years and finally got to my 500th posting!

Hey, at least you're not paying $100+ for an "A-Spec" badge... That's a bargain of a price!

I don't know why, but I ALWAYS attribute debadged cars, especially the trunk, to mean that it was involved in an accident.

I know thats not the case, but it's my first thought.

In response to the OP, the fact is that the '04/5/6 6MT model was the unofficial Type-S for those years as it came with Brembo brakes, thicker stabilizer bars, and a limited slip differential. I should have a Type-S badge, but .....

While you are correct overall, I just have to nitpick for a bit.

The Type-S in its stock form already comes with a sport-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes, and upgraded wheels and tires. The A-Spec kit just comes with its own versions of all of those except for the brakes.

I don't know who such people are fooling.

People who don't know much about cars don't know what a Type-S is and frankly wouldn't care if you told them.

People who do know what a Type-S is will be looking for the quad-pipes, the caliper covers, the wheels, the clear side-markers, the Type-S logo on the headrests...your not fooling anybody with just a badge.

/facepalm

No, you shouldn't have a "Type-S" badge because your car was never a "Type-S". You seem to be missing the point. Just because it was sported-up some, doesn't make it an equivalent.

I think you're missing my point. I don't have a Type-S badge and wouldn't think of putting one on. But the fact remains whether you like it or not that the '04/5/6 6MT really was the unofficial Type-S for those years as it was officially branded the Sport Model.

I wouldn't say it's an unofficial Type-S. It's the Sport Model and nothing more. Kind of like when the Accord used to come in SE trim with better brakes and whatnot back in the day.

I had an 04 MT and never knew it was dubbed the "Sport Model" until I traded it in for my Type S. Dealer listed it on their site as a Sport Model.

Saying "unofficial type s" is equivalent to saying it is not a Type S, never was one, and never will be one. What you have is a TL with a manual transmission, that's it.

Brb, going to go change the badge on my wife's Accord to TL just because it's a V6 with navi. Those Accords are unofficial TL's you know, because they come with similar features.

Until I saw people on the forums discussing the cleaner look (which I agree with), I also used to think that no badges was because the car had been in an accident. This makes me think that the average person makes the same assumption.

Lol you can say that but in reality the TL 04 MT "sport model" "unofficial Aspec" is more sportier than type s in term on performance. Justnspace mentioned several time in other thread.

Early manuals are lighter and the a-spec suspension is a hair better, but a type s is more than that, and still the faster car.

Fake badging is just wrong. If you didn't buy the mustang GT, you don't have a mustang GT. Who cares? Get over it, but don't try to say you have one or that your car is the same. It's not. Having said that, and it's your car and if you want to put a gazillion stickers on it for our entertainment who are we to stop you? Stick away

That's not the point. The point is that it's not a Type S so don't badge it as such. And more sportier? WTF? What happens when you get a TL-S with 6MT? Is that more sportier or do we slap some NSX badges on it because it's got some more unofficial sport to it?

I've owned both an 04 TL MT and an 08 TL Type S MT. Type S MT > TL MT. And back on point, don't put fake badges on you car........

Lol the response is hilarious and you all thought that I approve the fake badge! Forgot to put red sarcasm color on my post Hahaha. I have actual 05 aspec and I dont give a flip if people put some fake badges on their car. Yes its wrong in many level and they shouldn't do that stupid fake badge on their car but Im very surprised that people actually defensive about it. I already seeing people putting AWD badge on the TLX i4 BASE on these days. Let people stick away so we can laugh!
