I don't wanna hijack this thread but I recently installed these http://www.oznium.com/led-flex-strips, specifically the 6 LED 2.4in length and they fit perfect without needing a dremel. Tthey are very cheap and waterproof.

Cool

Hello

Thanks looks great everyone one think I am going to do mine soon just need to order them up. Just one question I am wondering and I think a few others as well how do you remove the side marker in the front and in the rear to get started? Do you have to pull on it from the outside till it comes out of the fender or do you have to go in from the wheel well and remove it from that way? Is there screws holding it or just a push out from the fender?

Thanks any help would be great.

my front sidemarker burnt out, now i have a great excuse to this mod :c)...

I was gonna go for a different look..and this looks like it..
I want to do white LED in the front and get the RED LED for the back..i like to keep the red cover for the rear end cause i like how it matches with the red tail lights that the 04 TL has..so it be like the front of the car all white, and the rear of the car all red...i will update as i order,

cheers

the side markers should just pry off from the outside. i just stuck a flat head screw driver wrapped in a rag to pop it out.

thats great palangel88, im sure this will be the fist of many DIY's for you and your ride. its really not hard to do at all. my sidemarkers are still going strong to this day.

however I strongly suggest you not spray nite shades on them. they look awesome at night. im afraid if you spray them it will not look as good at night.

It was just an idea, i saw a type-s WDP with the side markers black, i figured it is nite shades, but you do make a point, at night it might not be bright enough! Many choices, its all about trial and error...hopefully less trials, less errors!!

one_silly_wabbit, I have this mod done for over 3 years now with no problems. The back part of the housing with the epoxy doesnt see much weather. As long as you seal it good, you should be ok.

do you just pop the sidemarkers out from the outside or do you have to take the wheel panels off?

I loosened the splash gaurds, some have been able to pop their sidemarkers out with a flathead. There is a pressure clip towards the rear of the sidemarker IIRC.

I just performed the same mod today and found that 3m velcro car adhesive works great aswell, you only need a strip of male and a strip of female which will give you the perfect amount of lift above the screws for a flush mount on the factory circut board.

Did this to my car today and it came out great. Although instead i bought the flexible led strips as mentioned earlier by someone else.
http://www.oznium.com/led-flex-strips

I did not need a dremel. I simply used a soldering iron (my first time) and trimmed an old credit card as a base to stick the led strip to. The flexible strip even came with double sided sticky tape. The leds in the strip turned out to be perfect, they arent too bright and the white is about 6K maybe 5k

great writeup!

After you guys got the side markers out, what did you use to cut open the side marker housing? I went through both pages and not one person mentioned how it was done.

OP said his were already cut from a previous LED mod and all he had to do was remove the epoxy that he previously put on it. That doesn't really help much..

Most of them use a dremel bit...

I'm going to do it the hard way since I don't have a dremel...

Also I feel like sending OP a doughnut or something for saving me 200 bucks!!

What's another way of opening them without a dremel? I looked online at the nearest store and the cheapest kit is nearly $50

I got the side markers cut apart right now and I'm trying to figure out how you guys wired up the oznium LED + and - wires hmm.... I guess I'll figure it out somehow. I'm keeping the stock board in place and removed the stock LEDs. I'm not sure if I should solder the + and - wires onto the existing board or what..

This picture shows how mine will look. Using stock board. I notice his wiring for his oznium LED is just hanging off to the side. After you put the side marker back together, are you supposed to cut a extra slit to let the wiring hang out? I'm not really a novice when it comes to electrical but damn I feel like one now

You know, since I've only done my drivers side so far I'll start taking detailed pictures using my phone when I start on the passengers side so it will help out other people in the future

Got all the pictures taken. Just got to upload to imageshack. I'll make my own thread with the pictures and list the materials needed along with explaining the steps that I took. It will not include steps of installing it because I'm not sure how to approach that part lol.

I'm still stuck on how to wire the Oznium LED wires for power and ground the correct way... I have one method, but it's really un professional and because of that I'm not going to include it in the DIY thread.

I'm curious as to how the OP and other members did it. Did you guys use T-Taps / Crimps or did you solder? It looks impossible to do either of those methods because the harness wire for the side markers barely have any slack to wire tap or solder....

Just a quick review, the LED's are really bright... I can see why they call them side markers! My car car literally marks every other car on the freeway while passing them... It reflects of the sides of other cars are creates a really bright glow... Car looks awesome now... Just need the headlights to look similar ...

You're right, I notice the same thing about it reflecting off other cars. It doesn't bother you that the LED module lights up bluish white (6,500kish) instead of pure clean white like 5k switchbacks or your OEM hids?

During the day when I unlock or lock my car, the sidemarkers light up and look almost purplish
