Looking to buy a used '07-'08 TL. Opinions?
Just looking for some opinions on whether or not I should buy this TL. 110k miles for $12.95k.
Used 2007 Acura TL For Sale | West Valley City UT
Looking over the carfax, it has had 4 owners. Some maintenance and checkups done. However I'm not sure if timing belt, water pump, spark plugs have been done. I have been doing a little bit of research and have found those to be service once 100k miles have been hit. From the pics, drivers seat leather has some scratches.
Also looking at this 08 TL that has 102k miles for $12.95k.. Acura TL Technology Package |
First time buyer. What should I specifically be looking for when buying a used 07-08 TL? Not going to mod or do anything crazy to it. Just looking to make daily commutes to and from work and school.

I know the 3G boasts reliability. But doesn't it seem ridiculous to pay $12k for a 100k mile car? I'm at a decision where whether or not I should pick up an 3G for $12k with 100k miles, or get an economy car for same price with a lot less miles. But man, the TL is one aesthetic beauty.

First and foremost you need to find out if either of them have had the 105K service done. If it hasn't been done or you can't confirm that it has or hasn't, you need to bear in mind this service will run you between $800-1200 depending on where you get it done. Now it is possible that neither one has been done and the 105K is an estimate of when it should be done (you get an notification in the MID as to when it needs to be done), but you want to be able to use this as a negotiating point and/or have some $$ set aside to have it done in the not too distant future.

I have been looking over a 07 TLS with 105k miles for $13k. Little hesitant on the TLS model and how previous owners have might of abused it. Don't really care too much about performance. Saw another 07 TL non navi with 121k miles for $9k. Navi is a definite must for me.

Thanks, will keep that in mind. Other than the 105k service, anything else I should be concerned about. I know the 07 TL has had 4 owners, 2 of which were partners and the 08 TL has had 2 owners only owned locally in Utah. The 08 TL looks really clean judging from the pics and has 10k less miles than the 07 for same price. Leaning heavily on the 08 at the moment.

For me the fewer the owners the better, but again that is me. If you have or can get maintenance records / history that will help take some of the mystery and angst out of the the purchase. I'm with you in terms of having the Nav vs. not. If there is an available Type S with similar miles for similar $$, I would certainly look into it. I have an 08 TL-S and it is by far my favorite car even having owned an 04. Performance aside, it looks different with the added touches and is even a little more exclusive. But that is my opinion. I think others would agree but it is your $$ to spend.

Private seller, new brakes, new tires, 105K service done, similar $$ and mileage. This would be at the top of the list for me............. You need to at least go and look at it, but would agree with 6MTSSR

Checked the carfax for the 07 TLS. 3 owners, clean carfax, scheduled maintenance done every 4-7k miles done mostly at Acura dealers. Every owner has drove it below the average of 15k miles per year. Lists 12,234 annual average mileage. Every owner has been locally owned in Utah as well.

Majority of owners Are the second if not 3rd hand owners of TL's on this site. I bought a TL used, I'm the second owner and I'll loving my car as the first owner was proven via receipts as well.
Numerous owners isn't always a bad thing but it's a good practice to factor that in lol, so good thinking.
I got mine with 81K and first service for 15K flat out the door if that helps you gauge anything?
Good luck! This us a great DD and I have had zero issues. I do all my own mods and service/oil etc so the car is good to you when you're good to it

If everything passes inspection, I'll be getting it. Timing belt and water pump need to be done still. Minor rock chips on front bumper. Small dent on passenger side. Other than minor cosmetic damage, everything looks good.
After timing belt and water pump are done, when's the next maintenance other than standard oil changes?

Suzuka Master
3x3 ATF (drain and fill 3 quarts of ATF each time then repeat the whole process for 3 times). Change the 3rd and 4th pressure switch for smoother shifting.

^^^^ three years newer and Type-S. Plus you found somewhat of a unicorn with such low mileage, so what would be the right price for a 10 year old car with 16K on the odometer??

I know a lot of factors go into the price of a car, but just as an example, I got my 2006 TL with Navi for about $13,000 including tax. White with Black interior, one owner (old lady who always kept up on maintenance), 78,000 miles, BUT it was in an accident a few months prior. This was back in March and I've had no trouble with it since and am loving it! Patience is key for finding the right price, I waited at least half a year before finding the perfect TL for me and my wallet
Good luck!

I went the opposite way and bought a cheaper TL 04 base 6mt. It had 129K and was owned by two people but the first had it leased for only 4000 miles. So it was riskier, but so far (ive owned it 3 months) it has been a great car. I paid $7600 but I also financed this car from a dealership, not private. Privately Id think you could find something like what I got for $6600-$7000.
I think what youre looking at, the type s is a great deal. I was just pointing out that there are lots of cars in that price range and you can get a base model for much less than $13K especially with over 100K miles on it.

Here's a list of what I did to my car when I first got it with the help of a fellow forum member that was local to my city:
Oil and oil filter change
Intake air filter and cabin air filter change (easy to do yourself)
Drain and flush with new coolant in radiator
Drain and flushed with new power steering fluid (mine was super old and gunky, I actually replaced with a new PS steering reservoir as well)
Drain and fill with ATF fluid (Did 1x3 then, will need to few more drains and flushes with the ATF since each time only a portion of ATF drains out...hence 3x3 and 4x3s, etc.)
ATF filter change (the old ATF filter looked completely jacked up...all twisted and messed up...it may be because Acura dealer still use the power flushing machine when they change out the ATF at interval servicing schedules)
Brake fluid flush and change (mine did not need since the seller had the brakes serviced just recently, but I would look into this)
All new spark plugs
I would also look into checking the valve clearance and adjust valves if needed...mine sounds a bit clatty so may need that done soon.
Check brake pads and tires for wear/tear.
Condition/clean interior, especially the leather.
Replace wiper blades if needed. Windex on windows. Make sure windshield washer fluid is topped off for when it rains next time or needs windshield cleaning.
Hope this helps.

I think $7000 or below is definitely a price point for the older 04 models.
I've seen dealers selling the 06s for about 9995 or so.
The seller I bought my 06 base from said that two acura dealers would only give her 5k/6k for a trade in...and then was gonna sell for about 9-10k after they re-condition the car.
Defnitely a good deal to buy private if you can.
