Good-bye TL; Hello TLX!

I'm sad to say I traded in my 2004 5AT TL today. Over 10 years, my TL gave me 230K trouble-free miles. I only had to do routine maintenance (never even changed the brakes!), changing fluids and tires. I only changed the timing belt once because I knew I was trading the car in when the 2nd service was due. Throughout the years, my car cost me $6502.18 for parts (including 7 sets of tires), $1907.86 for labor, and $670.14 for taxes. I sure got my money's worth, this was an awesome car!

Here's my new ride, a TLX V6 Tech in SSM/Ebony!

Thanks for all your help over the years. I hope to see you over at the TLX forums!

Congrats Narnia! That's a lot of miles in roughly 10 years but even more tires.

Congrats!
Nice to see some older TL's didn't need a tranny rebuild.
I guess a lot has to do with how you drive it, and maintain it.

I honestly think it's got to do with luck of the draw

I thought I read in another one of the OP's threads that she drives 30k miles a year which helps explain the high mileage and original tranny...less shifts.

Personally, I have 185k miles on my 05 original tranny.

Congrats on your new TLX. I'm glad you got the V6. I had a loaner TLX 4 cylinder this past week and the 4 banger disappointed an otherwise great car. It constantly hunted between gears and I found the engine anemic and buzzy. The ILX i also had as a loaner made nicer sounds and moved the ILX around nicely. While I haven't driven the V6 TLX (yet) I'm sure it will be better suited with the V6.

Seems like you had good luck with your old TL. Mine has been in the shop numerous times. I get the feeling it was super reliable for the previous owner and as soon as I took ownership she probably decided "let's see how much attention ($$) I can get from this guy". I think she is making up for all those years of trouble free driving.

I'm sorry your TL experience hasn't been a positive one. Maybe the previous owner didn't maintain it properly?

I didn't even test drive the I-4, my cars are always V-6's. Warning: don't take a TLX V-6 test drive, you will want one!

I parked beside a white TLX today and I must admit it's a super nice car. Chaps my ass so hard that it doesn't come with the lovely Honda 6MT. I know, I know, it's a sign of the times, but a guy can still wish, lol. I wouldn't have bought my 3G if it didn't have the 6MT in it.

I'm also surprised the V6 TLX doesn't come with the DCT the 2.4L has. I think that would be a nicer combination. Nonetheless, I'm quite impressed with what Honda/Acura did with the styling for the TLX. It's a definite nice step in the right direction, especially after the 4G TL, lol.

I think white really shows the TLX off well. I would have bought the car in white except it's too hard to keep a white car clean in the city, esp. in winter.

I also like the styling of the TLX. I feel it's more of an evolution of the 3G than the 4G was.

This is a good example how people say stay away from 04-06 model. It depend on how the previous owner taken care of the car.

And meh, sounds like Honda is being proactive in replacing these, in a time when many manufacturers are recalling things like crazy.

This is the first model year, Acura could always bring out a TLX Type-S with a midyear refresh, just like they did with the 3G TL.

Agreed and time will tell but the Type S moniker only existed on the TL and RSX IIRC. Guessing one of the determining factors will be how well the TLX sells.

I was always wondering if the cabin of the newer Acuras is more quiet than the older ones but not so much. However I never got to drive the TLX but last time I was doing an oil change at the dealership I test drove 2014 RLX and was expecting lot more for that price range. I travel a lot at my job and I rent a car pretty often. I had 2014 Chrysler 300C V8 5.7 twice for couple days and honestly, I like it much better than RLX... The ride was much more comfortable, the cabin is extremely quiet (literally can't hear any noise at highway speeds) and all the convenient features like heated steering wheel, heated and cooled seats for which you pay another $4k in RLX, Garmin Nav interface, factory remote starter and lot mooore. Visually I do like the RLX more. And going back to your car, jewel eyes and fresh car
