This sounds awesome so I had to share! I changed (and removed) some wording but the original article is linked here.
When it comes to professional sports, advanced metrics are all the rage. The NFL is taking a step in embracing this by introducing location-aware RFID sensors in 17 stadiums for the 2014 season.
Players will wear RFID chips under their shoulder pads during Thursday Night Football games at select stadiums in 2014 that will allow the NFL and their technology partner, Zebra Technologies, to record and present statistics never before possible.
Zebra has dubbed their technology "Real Time Location System (RLTS) for sports." The system could be used to track anything from a player's acceleration and total distance run to the amount of separation a wide receiver gets and the velocity of a linebacker at the time of impact.
At launch, MotionWorks will be used to augment television broadcasts and provide fans with statistics previously unavailable even to teams and coaches. Missed blocks and turnovers (like butt-fumbles) will not simply be understood "missed assignments," but be broken down by way of spatially oriented statistics that show fans who screwed up and where.
In 2015 and beyond, assuming the experiment goes well, we could see an evolution in statistical gathering and player analysis. How fast does Player A accelerate when leaping for a pass or taking down a quarterback? How fast does Free Agent X perform in similar situations? Technology is about to change the way we scout the NFL.

I was at the Packers vs. Lions playoff game a while back where Barry Sanders ran 75 yds. behind the yard of scrimmage before being tackled for a 2 yard loss. Amazing!
Point is especially with wide receivers if one gets 100 yds. The amount of actual yards they run is 4-5x that amount. Same with running backs, tight ends etc.

There always is that one team that people love to hate.
Reddit user KMHokies35 asked fans in an online survey about what team they despised the most. The final results were put on a graphic of a map the United States. Though geography and long-time rivalries appeared to play a big part, there are some surprises after the final vote was tallied.
NFL teamsNew York does not love the New England Patriots, which is not a shocker because of rivalries with the Jets and Giants. In return, nearly all of New England despises the Jets.
Indiana’s disdain for the Pats can also be explained by New England’s fierce rivalry with Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts throughout much of the 2000s.
But why does Florida hate the Patriots so much? The conference rivalry with the Miami Dolphins might have something to do with it, but it still seems strange considering the Dolphins are one of three teams in the state along with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Other results are more obvious. The Tennessee Titans once played in Houston as the Oilers, so naturally their fans don’t like the Houston Texans, the city’s new team.
The West Coast proves to be a civil war between fans of the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers. If both teams stay in contention for a few more years, that hatred has the chance to burn even deeper.
As long as the NFL is around, rivalries, petty or not, will never cease to exist.

I seriously question that accuracy. South FL is easily the highest populated portion of Florida. The Dolphins are the most popular team in the state given its history and the Bucs and Jags history. We hate the Jets and they hate us.

I've long suspected this is what folks in Cleveland are in for.
Johnny Manziel flips off Washington Redskins' bench
LANDOVER, Md. - Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine came into Monday's game planning to announce his quarterback for the regular season opener in the next couple of days.
However, neither highly touted rookie Johnny Manziel nor holdover Brian Hoyer played very well in Cleveland's 24-23 loss to the Washington Redskins Monday night, leaving the Browns in a quandary.
Manziel was just 7-for-16 passing, and got more attention for his actions than his play. He managed to create some controversy by extending his middle finger toward the Washington Redskins bench after a third-quarter incompletion.
He was not penalized for his action, but the NFL may fine him after reviewing his actions on tape. "I should've been smarter," Manziel said of his gesture. "It was a Monday Night Football game -- the cameras were probably solidly on me."
This incident did not endear him to his coach.
"It does not sit well... disappointing," Pettine said. "You have to be able to maintain your poise."

I've played on sports teams with guys like Manziel and you just want to strangle them the whole time.
His teammates will never really have his back and won't respect him in the huddle, like all the good/great teams and QBs do.
I do think he would make a good slot receiver or backup DB though, but he would have too much pride for that.

Manziel will fail miserably, but not because he doesn't have the talent. He'll fail because he's too arrogant to see his own weaknesses, and doesn't have the ability to humble himself on the field to be be an enabler to a good offense or an effective leader of his team. He's a physically gifted playmaker, and anyone who's played against Tebow has figured out how to stop that. Defenses will figure him out quickly and every failure will spiral him downward. He hasn't revealed he has the maturity to rise above it.
He's the buzz this year, a failed experiment next year, and someone's backup after that.

Although to be fair to Leinart and Quinn...I don't know if they had attitude issues.

I know I'm hardly impartial, but the defending Superbowl champs are looking a lot like defending Superbowl champs at the moment. I think the city may shut down on the 4th. I hope it does! No real point in working that day.

Thank God Hard Knocks is on HBO Go this year. Stupid rule previous years. Seen 2 of the episodes. So far Roddy is hilarious, Ryan is a pro's pro, and how the fuck these rookies get so big?

And now we turn to ESPN SportsCenter for the latest on Michael Sam's showering habits...

The dozens of other gay NFL players must be pretty bent about how much attention Sam is getting.

^Thanks for the heads up. I still have to watch the 3rd one. It's a shame they don't have previous Hard Knocks on there. They're done pretty well and are very entertaining. Sure they're irrelevant when it comes to who gets cut and preseason scores, but the character development and seeing the human side of some folks is pretty good TV.

Did you hear Michael Sam got cut? Did ya hear? Did ya? Did ya? Did ya? Did ya? Did ya? Did ya? Did ya? Did ya? Did ya? Did ya? Did ya? Did ya? It was so difficult to tell....
