Anyone have any input on surface changes, specifically use of abralon pads?

Teammate suggested I take the surface down from 4000 grit to 1000 grit on my SE, to get it to grab sooner.

In other news, said teammate shot 802 in a monday league. So sick!!! I'll get there one day...

Going from 4000 to 1000 is a huge leap. Yes it will grab sooner but you'll have to be adjusting the whole time, constantly moving around until you find a good spot to stand and also throw it. You may be able to adjust easier than I can, but I went from 4000 to 1000 once and I shot under average. I was 15 boards left of where I usually stand and I kept coming in heavy.

You may want to do something less drastic. Just my

Went bowling this past weekend and bowled a 192, had 7 strikes and 3 9's. I was pissed I missed easy spares. Not bad for only bowling two or three times a year, and a pitcher of beer.

^Damn that's not bad at all! Congrats!

Single pin spares seem so easy to get, but they're not. I've ruined many games by missing one or two single pins.

I'm a righty, but the 7 pin hates me. However, I almost always pick up the 10. Any other pin is not a problem for me, unless I get cocky and make a stupid mistake.

Same here, one of mine was the 5 and just went to the right of it, the other two were the 7 and just grazed the right of them. The 10 seems so natural being a righty.

I'm in the same boat man. I can just about always pick up the 10-pin but 4 out of 5 times I'll miss the 7

Usually I throw it too fast and don't give the ball enough time to move over.

Last Thursday I went 9 spare, 8 in a row, and then missed a 7-pin on the 10th ball

For some reason I hate the 10 pin and I'm a righty as well. Just a little nudge on my wrist and it's gonna curve and barely miss it. I've been doing better, but the 7 pin I'll always hit it unless I baby it cuz I'm thinking too much about it. haha. The most easiest pins to hit sometimes are the hardest when you think about it too much. hahaha. Then you lose by one pin, DOH! Hate that crap.

Understatement of the century in my case.

I get so mad when I go XXX 9- XXXX. Totally ruins any chance of a good score

And thanks for the input on the pads. Maybe I will have him hit it with 1,000 underneath and then hit it with the 2,000 pad on the surface, so it's not a huge jump down.

Shot 216-226-187 (2 splits) last night. Missed one 10 pin. We swept, so still in first.

And good news, looks like if I can hang on, I will get high average as my teammate is not eligible due to not bowling at least 2/3rds of the season, as he subbed in at the halfway mark! I smiled to myself when he was told that, but it didn't bother him, he's just there to win first place as a team.

Trust me, I years upon years when I could pick up everything BUT the 10-pin. One night I got sick of it and bowled 6 games of going only for the 10-pin. Now I'll miss maybe one out of 3 games. Honestly, I don't really leave the 10-pin on the first ball that often anymore

That's happened to me plenty of times. I can pretty much expect that to happen if I have the front 4 or 5. I always come in light, leaving something on the left side, and then missing it

Nice set man!

Good luck getting high average! I had it last half and it felt great. Now I have high average by maybe .3

Yea I'm pretty pumped. We got like 10 weeks left, and this is probably my last year in the league so I want to go out with a bang. Rumor has it the #2 guy is getting knee surgery so he'll be out like 4-5 weeks or so. Not how you like to win, but it is what it is, I can't control who gets injured or not. I play hurt some weeks. I'm sure that will be his excuse at the awards dinner, too

Right now I feel good if I can shoot a "no tap 300" (9 or X every first ball) it will help my mindset for the pro-am tourney.

Why your last year in league? I've been thinking about quitting as well, but it's my one time a week I can get away from homework and such and have fun.

I've shot a few no-tap 300s. Of course whenever I bowl no-tap, I get a shit ton of regular strikes and maybe one or two 9's. Then when I'm bowling using regular scoring, I always get a shit ton of 9's and one or two strikes

Probably moving to PA. Waiting til this season ends to apply for a new job, as crazy as that sounds.

I'll never quit bowling, though.

Did slightly better today. 156 195 214.

Should I disregard my score if I just hit brooklyns all day? I think only 4 of my strikes actually hit the sweet spot. Still got adjustments to make ..

I bowled over average tonight

192, 258, 215.....665

First game had two stupid opens, missed one 10-pin and then chopped the 1 off of the 1-2-4.

Second game Had two spares, both 10-pins.

Third game I had X 9/ X 9/ X X X X then left the fucking 4-7-10 in the 9th, then X 8/ in the 10th.

Team went 5-2 tonight. Solid.

I suck No 300 and no 800 either.

Tied my highest game ever, though, and this is my highest sanctioned game and 2nd highest series.

Got so nervous that 11th ball, threw it soft and it got there, but didn't carry. 10 pin obv. Ugh. We won that game by like 12 pins also, haha....

Then I start the 3rd game I needed like a 260... start / X / / / so it was over. blahhhhhhhhhh.

Shoulda had a 279 the first game I had like 4X in a row in the middle, the 9 pin, then X out.

shrug. average went up 5 pins...in the wrong league, LOL.

First off, I was told it wasn't a house shot. The house shots are similar to the shot in the house that I play at regularly. The lanes were DOUSED in oil. For the most part, my new ball (Storm Hy-Road) did a decent job of keeping up with the lanes. Of 60 players, after the first game, I was in 7th place. After the second game, I was in 8th place. At this point a pounding, throbbing headache hit me like a ton of bricks, making it hard for me to concentrate. I bowled like shit the 3rd game and said if I made it at all, it would be by the skin of my ass. And as shown by a layer of skin taken off my ass, 15 players advanced, and I was lucky #15. My first time advancing. Ever. It was pretty exciting.

Started the next round, having taken some Excedrin (after my friend ran out the get me some), the headache was still there, still throbbing but not as bad as the last game. I did better the first two games, but I out-bowled the person I shared the lane with by 11 pins. Total score including handicap, 197. Patiently waiting for the results, they announced 204 as the cutoff, and I was done. I took my $100 and went home...

I did say something to them afterward that they are going to look into. My starting average at my first tournament with this group had me at 170. After 4 times of playing and my games being significantly LESS than 170, I didn't understand how they still have me at 170. Had it been adjusted accordingly, I might have had a chance yesterday. They said that my next visit would be free for the troubles, if any.

So yesterday I shot 177-161-130 (I told you the last game was bad). I shot 161 again in the next round. I had a 36 pin handicap per game.

I really have to work on my game. Problem is, practice, practice, practice is what everyone says. I know I'm doing something wrong, and by practicing alone and constantly making the mistakes I do or don't know I'm doing isn't going to make me a better player. I need to seek some professional help, to show me what I need to do to make me a better player. My biggest problem is the fact that I am very inconsistent. Oh well..

Next weekend's another week/tourney, so we'll see how I do then.

Pretty good nonetheless. I always have trouble with heavy oil.

Check out this website, it has good bowling tips articles: http://bowl4fun.com/

Also watch some pro bowlers on YouTube and watch their releases in slo mo.

I practice almost every sunday morning, definitely keeps me in the groove between leagues.

In those LI/Queens tourneys, are bowlers allowed to wear hats? I always wear a hat when I bowl and it would feel weird without one, haha.

I've heard that wearing a hat is a no-no, but I wear hats all the time, as do others, nobody has had a problem with that to my knowledge.

4 of the guys in the scratch section bowl in one of my leagues. They are all 220+ averages.

I may have to try a tourney one of these days. Handicap division, though.

Oh damn I thought that 3 games + handicap.

226 average for 4 games is straight though. I wish I was that consistent.

Yesterday in the weekly leagues I shot 205-207-163.

Took the first game by 50 pins, second game by 2 pins , and the last game my A bowler had to leave so we used his average -10 (but he usually bowls over his average). I ran out of steam (was exhausted, hungry and tired, came straight from work), and my other teammate was in split city. His average is closer to 190, he bowled 165, me 163 the last game. My average is in the high 160's. He usually bowls 100 pins higher than me, but this time I bowled 100 pins higher than him. Lost the 3rd game by 44 pins, but thankfully took the wood.

The 1-2-3 positions are neck and neck, it's starting to get intense. We came into the week tied in 2nd place, and 3 points behind 1st place. I know the first place team took 5 (out of 7) points, we took 5 points, but i'm not sure what the other team I was tied with took.

By the way, Rounder, any interest in this week's tournament? It's at AMF Sayville (5660 Sunrise Hwy - Sayville, NY). I hope to be there...

Not gonna be in NY this weekend, shoo. I have the pro am next week, though

Sayville is a pretty nice house, but it's a drive to get out there.

I had a pretty solid night last night, 223-203-212...

Soooo I bowled at a tournament this week...

I got there about an hour late because I was very behind, I was on the shit list for the guys who I was sharing the lane with because they bowled through 4 frames and had to stop and wait for us to catch up. I bought them all a round a drinks to shut 'em up. I had one guy on my lane that was a pure a-hole, but what can ya do. The other guys were cool about it (one of them I played with last week as well).

My average was lowered from 170 to 150 because of my previous performance.

I shot 174-144-164 and I had a 162 pin handicap. Of 77 players I finished in 6th place

Next round had 19 players, 10 to advance. I shot 167 (+54 Handicap) = 221 - Advanced in the 5th spot.

Next round had 10 players, 5 to advance, I choked big-time. I shot 130 (+54). The cut was 207. I was kicking myself in the ass because I picked the wrong ball to throw to close the 10th frame spare (off a strike). Had I closed the 10th frame I would have advanced most likely but I didn't. I finished in 8th.

Oh well, $150 is better than nothing! It was quite the rush though!

I look forward to the next one...

Bowled my best ever tonight...a 146! I'm slowly getting better but I think I need some real 'me' time to focus on my game and not be distracted by music, friends, and kids. Maybe I'll go later this week during the day when it's quiet. Unemployment does have some benefits.

Congrats Shoofin! That's awesome man. I'm sorry you had a rough last game but you made it quite far!

Congrats man! I'm in the unemployment boat with you, so I know it feels good to blow off some steam and do something different for a change. You should inquire at your bowling alley and see if they have any discounted bowling days. We never had anything like that at the bowling alley I worked at, but some local places would do .25 cents/game days and shit like that.

And fellas I wish I could say that I'm bowling tomorrow night, but I'm not. I'm still pretty fucked up from getting my tonsils out last Tuesday, it's been a rough road to recovery. I'm having a good friend of mine who's on the NC State bowling team sub for me. I should be back next week.
