I think my 1st trans finally went to crap!

Today on the way home from work I was cruising about 65mph and the car just dropped into 2nd gear. It's happened once or twice since I've owned the car but it kinda surprised me. So I slowed down for a little and went back to the same speed like normal and it happened again. So now I'm really in shock and pull over to the shoulder. I shut the car off and re start it, now the trans starts acting crazy like it was slipping and kept down shifting as I was driving. So I keep going slow in the shoulder and the trans goes into limp mode so I only have second gear, no reverse, no manual gears work, check engine, and traction control light is on. On the way home I stopped by a advance auto parts store to read the code real quick and the only one that came up is P0730 gear ratio incorrect. I'm stumped and don't know what to do as of right now. I'm thinking about just saying fuck it and go for a type s engine and do the 6 speed swap. What's you're guys opinions??

Welcome to the club, the tranny is officially done. This is exactly what mine did the last time it went out - I am on tranny #3. Keep us informed as to what you decide to do. A lot of members swear by an Odyssey tranny swap. Good luck!

If you were already thinking about doing it now is as good of time as any. Good luck with that.

So it's for sure done? I know I don't want to put multiple auto transmission's in this car. I've heard about the odyssey swap is it a direct swap as in plug and play?

I'm thinking about it. It all depends what acura says once I bring it to them on Tues or Wed to put my passenger seat belt buckle in. I was just at the dealership a few days ago because my srs light came on but it was only the passenger seat belt buckle so its covered under the lifetime warranty. Depending if it's a easy fix or not means 6 speed trans and type s engine swap. I will not put another auto trans in it.

I have 128,292 miles on the original trans so I guess I've been lucky to get that many miles haha. The weird part is the fluid is still red and doesn't smell burnt.

from 1st to second my car engages oddly only at a certain throttle.. lol soo odd. hasn't changed or nothing for over 25000kms. But I still wanna diagnose and find the problem.

trouble is I cannot find enough info to know exactly where to look to find my problem.

SO, I just ordered the Helm manual for our car cause I know it's one of the switches. the entire inside of my trans is new. roughly 1000pages it says it is. so hopefully after read much of it I will know where to look/replace.

That sucks man...

I thought you had a Type S already.

If not, yeah you're definitely gonna want to upgrade the engine and do the 3.5 build at the same time if you can afford it.

I may have to get into the oddysey trans swap in the near future. My trans is starting to jump a little bit between 2nd and 3rd gear shifting. Usually goes away when the fluid hits normal operating temp, but still...

That's what I'm leaning towards doing all depending what acura says when I bring the car to them this upcoming week.

I don't know if I want to put another auto trand back in and I might as well do the type s swap while I'm at it.

Nope I wish I already had one. I was looking to buy a 03 black on black type s 6 speed for awhile but I never found any clean ones worth buying so I decided to keep mine.

I wouldn't build the motor since it's a daily driver and nothing special as of quick. I would throw a 100 shot on it for fun though, since I have a kit just laying around! If I want to go fast I'll just ride my bike or once I'm finished building my drag car take either of them out haha.

I just picked the car up from the dealer. They fixed my passenger seat belt buckle for free so that's all good now. The trans is done for sure they test drove the car and said it needs a new trans and ecu, the estimate cost is $5,324.98. Luckily I knew the service adviser through a friend and she waved the $95 diagnostic fee. I also got to use a 2010 rdx turbo complimentary for one day, its a nice suv. I'm thinking about picking up a 03 type s with a 6 speed locally that's wrecked in the rear, I think I can get the whole car for $2,500-3,000. I'll keep you guys updated once I decide what to do exactly.

p0730 is shift control system. it is the most common issue to have due to sensor failure.

it's going to be shift solenoid(a,b,c) and or a/t clutch pressure control solenoids a and B..

I just bought the Acura service manual is this is the info is says DIRECTLY FROM THE BOOK

their is a procedure of testing the clutch pressure to make sure it is within spec, if all is ok then u can proceed and replace the required switches. unfortunately it does not tell you what specific one you need. you will need to replace the solenoid valve B... then A and C... then replace the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valves a and B

turn iginition off and reset the PCM via 7.5 amp fuse.

and if that doesn't rid the code... then trans is gone.

Officially that is what the service manual says in its entireity

a new trans has the SAME old shitty sensors.. so if it is in fact a sensor related issue. you better know before you invest in a whole new one.

hope this helps you out

Well the guy that I planned on buying a type s and 6 speed swap from sold it. I decided to go the cheaper route and just throw a newer trans in it. Correct me if I'm wrong but I need to look for a 04-06 odyssey or 04-06 tl trans correct? I don't plan on keeping the car too much longer after I put the new trans in so right now this sounds like the best option for me. Is there anything else I need to look for? Let me know thanks

The thread said 04-06 Oddysey, or 06-07 TL trans.

Apparently the first batch of 06 TL transmissions still had the issues of older transmissions, so... personally I'd just go with the Oddysey.

Okay I started reading that thread some but its way too long to read every page lol. So I will start looking for a 04-06 oddysey trans. I saw that a few people said it needs a different filter and something about some bosses being drilled and tapped. Other than that its a direct bolt in? Maybe someone can chime in that's already done the swap before.

I thought I read that you could swap the housings, and it'll fit. No drilling and tapping needed. I could be wrong, though.

Well I sent NVA-AV6 a pm and I would like to get in touch with him over the phone to talk some things over. Everyone says he's the man to talk to on this forum about the swaps since he has experience doing it. I just don't want to get the wrong trans and be screwed.

Can anyone tell me what two pressure switches have to be changed? NVA-AV6 told me he usually changes them but didn't say which ones. I bought a 05 oddysey trans with 41k miles to put in my 02 cl-p. I already have the trans out of the car and all I need to do is swap the parts over. Is there anything else you guys recommend changing before I put the new one in?

Well guys I want to thank you for all your help/info I finished the swap tonight with help from a friend that's on the board also (type JDM). Everything went back together smooth and it works great. No cel codes or anything! We didn't have to swap the range switch over, no drilling and tapping of anything, and I didn't replace any pressure switches since the new trans only had 42k miles. So far so good!

Well actually my Bro is giving his 03 tl-s to my Mom and I'm giving the 02 cl-p to my Bro. My Mom wants to sell the tl because that has the same shitty trans before it fucks up and I think she is going to buy a 07 or 08 tl-s with the good trans.
