Entertainment Subforum Discussion

I know some people have thrown out the idea before, but didn't know if management had already discussed it.

A movie subforum in Ramblings would be nice. Especially for Yumcha.

Some occasions, it seems half of the Ramblings front page is just movie threads. Then again, I guess that's kind of what Ramblings is for.....off topic things. It would be cool to have them all grouped in one area though so you can browse through them quickly, not search...maybe see some threads that you might have missed otherwise/movies that you haven't heard of.

I suppose it would probably cut down on a lot of movie thread reposts, for whatever that's worth.

Just a thought.

May as well just call it the Entertainment forum and have it use prefixes for thread titles like:

TV
Netflix
HBO
Showtime
Movie:
FIOS TV:

etc.....

or whatever fits best...

I'm for this as well, however, I think just a Movie and TV suffix will suffice. And I wouldn't make the prefixes mandatory.

If we do proceed with an entertainment category, wouldn't it make sense to simply rename the existing "Gaming" sub-forum to be "Entertainment" instead and just add the "Movie" and "TV" prefixes to the sub-forum?

It's all entertainment IMHO.

Even though they are entertainment, both Gaming and Movies/TV are very different. I say let's keep them separate. People in the Gaming sectin may talk about strategies, cheats, etc., of a game, where in the Movies/TV section, it may be ratings, plots, characters, etc. Very different dialogs for each.

I think that entertainment is good replacement name for video games and computer games...they do coincinde, and it's not like the subforum is all that busy.

I'd like to hear some other thoughts on this.

I agree that the Gaming sub-forum doesn't get much traffic relative to others, but if this was an idea that was to be implemented I like the idea of having it a completely separate sub-forum. The traffic I'm thinking it might have would warrant one...or it'd at least be nice.

I know I'd be visiting it quite a bit.

Interested to hear what others think, though.

Just curious if this is anything management has discussed since originally mentioned.

There are (obviously) many "issues" or suggestions and such as shown by the number of threads in this Help/Support area so I know this may not be on immediate agenda (if at all)...just wondering.

Bumping this thread. 6 out of the 8 first threads right now in ramblings are movie or tv related.

Now that the Tech forum has been implemented, having an entertainment forum may sort out some of our issues with choosing the move the gaming forum or not into the Tech Forum.

We could move all the device related threads in gaming to the tech forum, and simply rename the Gaming forum to be 'Entertainment'. The new Entertainment forum could house threads about movies, tv, etc along with threads that talk about the actual games and gameplay.

It's important to note there will always be gray area when it comes to where a thread will fit. Sometimes someone will ask a tech question in a non tech thread, and the same for the asking a gameplay question in a tech thread so I don't think we can ever get around that. we have that problem already with discussions in ramblings that have to deal with religion and politics, but we don't move all those threads to R&P all the time. I think we'll have to handle it on a case by case basis, but having a more organized grouping of material will still clean things up IMHO.

any comments?

I don't see what could hurt about a trial run of merging movies, music, TV, etc. Unless it's a lot of work for you guys.... I have no idea what such a thing would entail other than moving threads. Actually, now that I think about it, it sounds like a lot of work

I think a subforum about just TV, movies or even TV/movies wouldn't stand all that well on its own. Even then the console and computer gaming one barely seems to stand out. I vote YEA for merging music, movies/TV and games.

I may be in the minority, but I'd personally keep gaming/console stuff separate from movies/TV/music...?
