Unhappy Cruise control does not work :(

Hi,

The cruise control on my 2001 Acura TL does not work. When I activating it (on steering wheel), the green sign "Cruise Control" lights on the dash board, but car does not hole the speed at all. Nether one accel/decell does not respond. Cancel - turns the cruise off.

In my understanding the servo (motor) or wiring to it are broken. Looks like computer works fine (all lights are goes on/off, also it does not allow me to turn on the cruise, if the speed is lees then 30mph).

Does anyone have an idea which part need to be replaced or what need to be repaired? (May be it is well-known, common problem...)? Or can give information where to find assembly/repair manual?

Thank you.

your cruise control cam might be broken. I had the same problem last June and the plastic cam was broken on mine. There are 2 cables that go to the throttle body. One is the throttle cable and the other is for your cruise control. Take off the plastic cover off the top of your engine and you'll easily see if one of the cables isn't attached. All I did to fix mine was to wrap a wire around the end of the cruise control cable to make it thicker and wedge it back into the cam. It's been holding up fine for me for the past 9 months or so and I use my cruise control daily.

Pop the hood and look to the left of the engine bay (passenger side).

You will see a black box with a cable sticking out of it, and the cable goes from there, across the engine bay, to the throttle linkage. If that cable is loose, then there's your problem.

At least on my 99 I can definitely set cruise below 30mph. I drive a local street with lots of cops and I sometimes set the cruise under 30 to keep me honest.

Thanks everybody for helping!

So what I did:
I opened a CC unit and engine cover. And manually turn the servo (in the CC unit), and it made the choker to move (on the carburetor). So it looks like the cable is fine.

Is there any tricky way, how I can check what happening with the CC unit (I want to find out if the servo trying to pull the cable), when the car is cruising?

PS: may be put the web camera, looking on the CC unit (without top cover), connect it to the laptop ?

Eek, it's usually the cable that goes first. In your case, it sounds like the control unit has gone bad. The commands from the buttons aren't going to the servo.

I don't know how to fix that... hopefully someone else can help ya out.

Good luck.
