I have a 05 TL with niv. the car drives well and no major problem to my knowledge.

But my driver side airbag light comes on occasionally. It happens mostly when i restart my car shortly after it was off. No light or whatever when i start the car in the morning, but it would come on if i have to turn my car off and restart the car.

anyone had experienced this before and know the fix. Thanks

I'm guessing you have a sensor going.................
The other possibility (unless you have no other symptoms) is your battery may be showing signs of failing. A failing battery has been know to exhibit all sorts of weird electrical issues in the Acuras.

Since you have nav just retrieve the code it's throwing and that should pinpoint it.

I had that light come on during cold winter months. If my Type S sat outside for extended periods like if I'm at work and the temps were below freezing the airbag light would come on. I went into the diagnostic menu of the nav, got the code and replaced the sensor. It was a faulty front right impact sensor. Ordered a new one online and problem fixed easy job. I had to remove the front bumper to access the front sensor, but that only takes literally 10 minutes to get the bumper off.

Also, not sure if it effected the TL's, but my wife's 04 Accord had an airbag light come on and it was a common issue with the belt buckle mechanism. Fixed for free by the dealership. I think I read posts about that here as well on earlier TL's. So that's something to consider as well. Belt buckles are usually covered under warranties, the impact sensors are not, but those are cheap and easy to DIY.

i do not think it's a battery problem because i had a bad homelink unit before and drained my battery. so i replaced both and my battery is basically new.

To the second comment, the airbag light only comes on time to time. so it's kinda hard to diagnose the code. but if it comes up, how can i diagnose it on my navi.

and last questions, where is the front impact sensor and is it easy to change that?

Yeah it's not gonna be a battery issue. Even if the light is intermittent the code will be stored and is available through the diagnostic menus in the navi system (assuming the older TL's do that like the 07/08's). Worst case if you can't get the codes yourself have autozone do it for free.
The front impact sensors are bolted to the front frame rail towards the corners. They are black sensors with two bolts securing them and a yellow harness and plug attaching to them. Once the bumper is off you can't miss them and they are relatively easy to access when bumper is off. If you haven't removed the bumper before don't let that task scare you away. It's super easy and I can actually have it completely off the car in 10 minutes flat.
Get the codes, I bet it will be as easy as replacing a sensor.

Also, search my username in problems section. I may have posted more info and pics of the sensors in a post regarding the airbag light.

Could also be other sensors such as the seat belt sensor. That was the sensor that went bad on mine.

I was able to confirm it by taking off my seat belt when the airbag light was on. If the seat belt light didn't come on, I knew the seat belt sensor was bad. I also got the code by jumping the two pins on the OBD port.

My solution was to unplug the seat belt sensor and jump two wires to make the car think my seat belt was always plugged in. No more air bag light and no more annoying seat belt light.

You should find out what srs code is stored. Most likely codes for front seat belt buckle switches. If your car is a clean title, dealers will replace them under warranty.

Warranty claims may not be supported / approved if the car has had significant enough damage for the car to have a rebuilt title. In other words Acura isn't going to pay for repair of items that aren't their fault.

Depends. If the accident renders the vehicle a salvaged title then dealer has a reason to deny repairs. If it still holds a clean title they normally they just warranty the repair.

I have a 2004 TL and my airbag light was coming on periodically in the spring of 2012. Turned out to be the driver's side seat belt buckle, which the dealer replaced under the lifetime warranty on said component. The guy at the Acura dealer didn't bat an eye and said it was a problem they'd been seeing more often at the time.

I have an 04, and the airbag light has been periodically coming on for years now. I remember a few years taking the drivers seat belt apart, and I remember doing something to a switch in there.

Autozone said they can get the abs codes, but I know the cheaper scanners can only do the big three American manufacturers. So, does anyone know for sure if the scanner they use can do Honda/Acura?
