Acura leads drop in satisfaction levels

The Wall Street Journal reported lower satisfaction levels for the year ending July. Acura had the largest drop in satisfaction levels, dropping 7% over last year.
"Leading the group in high customer satisfaction was Daimler AG DAI.XE +2.00% 's Mercedes-Benz with a score of 86, followed by Subaru at 85 and Toyota Motor Co. 7203.TO +0.10% 's Lexus brand tying Volkswagen VOW3.XE +1.31% at 84.

The bottom three finishers were Acura at 77, followed by Dodge at 78, with Jeep and Audi NSU.XE -0.99% tied at 79."

Acura was at the bottom of the 21 brands. I have been saying for some time now, the leadership team at Honda needs to reign in the continuing fall in Acura vehicle (MDX) before the Honda brand sustains permanent damage from the Acura brands falling customer satisfaction. I have had 3 great Honda vehicle with not a single breakdown for under 180k miles. With my Acura I have already had non working DVD at delivery and one road side call for breakdown. I am unlikely to buy a Honda/Acura brand after my current experience, unless I have trouble free usage here on. I am not holding my breath.

I've had my share of minor issues with my TSX, RDX and MDX. Pretty much 80%-90% of my issues were covered by factory, TSB recalls, powertrain and/or extended warranties. Other issues outside of routine maint are annoying; but, to be expected like door actuator, brake booster sensor, or seat heater switch. Never been left stranded and always got a loaner if the repairs took more than 1-2 days.

It is hard to find anything other than a vehicle with more than a 1 year warranty standard, let alone 4yr/50,000 mile warranty. I see a higher % of +15 year old Acuras on the road compared to BMW/M-B/Audi.

I had a 2005 and 2008 MDX and a 2011 TL that my son bought off lease this past April.. Those vehicles were/are trouble free, yeah a couple of minor issues here or there but nothing like what I have been reading on AZ in regards to the new MDX..

I really like the the MDX and am considering another one for my wife in the next 3-6 months. But some of the issues/ complaints I have read about here are making me proceed very carefully.. I am hoping that these are nothing more than "first year bugs" and Acura is addressing them for 2015.

No doubt all brands have issues, I guess I'm just not used to it with Acura..

I saw that on the news this morning, and I felt bad about it.My impression over the years was that an Acura was in the same quality bracket as Lexus & Infinity,so when the news anchor said Acura is at the bottom of the list,I felt a tinge of buyers remorse.

Is this ranking taken from just the initial J.D.Powers survey? I think they should do one after one or two years from the purchase date,to show more than just the first few days after you drive it home.

Although I have had several flaws that got fixed under warranty,I am impressed with how the dealership service has been.I wonder if the dealership/service experience is part of the survey?

I hope Acura can turn things around!

This survey sounds like a poll for general brand perception. A mish-mash of car quality and customer satisfaction, dealership service and ambience, satisfaction with the service department, etc....

Which actually is a valid viewpoint, because the corporation really does need to take all these factors into account. For instance, I like my Acura, but I really hate the fact that my dealership does not offer a loaner car for any service less than half a day. Therefore, if I were polled, my response would reflect some level of dissatisfaction with Acura, in general.

I concur the dealership experience for Acura is not as good as other luxury brands, even Infiniti. But Acuras are generally cheaper than other luxury cars, so I can't complain much. Gotta pay to play as the old saying goes.

I've been saying this for a long time. Acura only has reliability and price advantage going for them. Missing any of the 2, they are in deep trouble.

While I do agree that Acura continues to struggle getting out of the tier 2 luxury group and into the big leagues (specially when it comes to interior design and materials) I wouldn't put too much into this as there is no correlation between the results and what people actually do. Audi is also at the bottom yet they continue to have record sales...

You had me until Infiniti. Infiniti is such a joke with their ugly designs, confusing naming schemes, and quite frankly boring performance. The only thing good about them is the sound of their V6's.
