We always knew that M Performance Parts would follow shortly after the launch of the 2023 BMW M2 to rekindle the flames of our interest in the new sport coupe, but there’s no need to wait because we can, apparently, already see them.

Instagram’s Wilcoblok has posted a set of official-looking photos of the new M2 said to be sourced directly from BMW M with a range of performance parts on. While the standard car isn’t exactly what you’d call conservative, these add-ons take the design over-the-top.

Compared by many to the last-generation Honda Civic Type R due to its big wing and abundance of strakes, the M Performance parts are proving to be controversial. In response to the photos, one commentor to Wilcoblok’s post wrote that “they just made it worse!”

You can decide for yourself, though, whether the new parts are an improvement or not. They appear to include an extended front splitter that rises up along the sides of the bumper ahead of the front wheels. The side inlets on the bumper also have diagonal strakes, instead of straight ones.

Black mirror caps, meanwhile, can be found a little farther back on
the M2, and there are black strakes pointing rearward from the back of all four wheel arches. In front of the rear wheel arches, meanwhile, there are L-shaped brackets.

Up higher, there are two aero elements. The first is a spoiler at the very top of the rear window and the second is a larger wing that arches over the trunk. At the back, the bumper gets new black fillers, and the exhaust tips are moved to the center of the bumper, in much the same way as can be done to the M4. On the hood, meanwhile, M2 script can be seen at the center of the power bulge.

The opposite of subtle, these alleged M Performance parts make the standard M2 look reserved by comparison. Fortunately, they are fully optional, so those to whom they do not appeal can simply ignore them. For those who are interested in them, you can check back in with us when pricing becomes available.

The M240i shares the same interior, same platform, same engine as the G20 3 series and they are almost the same size too.... i never expected it to be much lighter than a M340i... cuz i dont know where they could possibly trim the fat.

Naturally the M2 would be right up there too. considering it has 2 turbos and weights about the same as M240i, that is pretty good already by current BMW's standard.

A big difference is that the M240 is AWD and the M2 is RWD...so where's all that weight in the M2 coming from?

M240i Xdrive is close to 3900 lbs and M2 with TT with more hardwares are about 80 - 90 lbs lighter... i guess that is where the difference is being RWD?

Considering G80 M3 Xdrive is about 100 lbs heavier than RWD M3... The #s do add up. BMW's M and Mlite model's Xdrives dont really add that much weight to the car compare to RWD models.

The moment BMW decided to use G20 as the platform for the new 2 series including M2, the weight difference will be very minimal and none of them will be light... especially when they literally all have the same interior.
BMW probably could have save some weight if they used the Z4/Supra's platform for M2, even if they had to stretch it a little.... But BMW decides that Supersize the M2 was a better idea....so there is that.

If that's the case then the weight penalty for AWD is minimal and all of them should be AWD for far better performance. Guessing they stuck with RWD for the manual option as well as the marketing matieral.

Yeah well, they need that OG M2 sized vehicle back on the lineup, in some other new model form, then.

Yah that is why most of the M340i and M3 are sold as AWD..... only the few true purist like myself ordered the RWD with PS4S on purpose

Unfortunately this redesign just means that the resale value of the old M2 isn't coming down anytime soon just like the resale value of the old M3/4 is still silly high.

I would buy it if i can get 1 at MSRP... honestly, regardless what it looks like... RWD 6mt performances cars are hard to come by nowadays.... I would take it while they last.

The other one would be M3 RWD 6mt... now that is even uglier... actually i dont even think it exists anymore on BMW USA anymore last time i checked.

Meh, it's probably fantastic to drive but I still wouldn't buy it. I'd buy the M3 before this one to be honest...which is still on the market BTW.

Agreed that it's a dying breed but it's fugly and I would drop $65k+ on a car I think is ugly.

i personally think M3/M4 is uglier.... not many things can be uglier than that front grill.

That will forever be high because of what it was and how limited of a run it had.

See carwow video below - they ask of this car - "The greatest BMW?!" Are they trying to troll?

And these are OE parts
The seats, steering wheel, gold wheels & ducktail spoiler are ok, the rest is a hard no, for me.

I remember M3/M4 has something similar in the M performance accessories catalog. dont recall seeing anyone bought those parts except the front lip.

They r just too ugly and so expensive at the same time.

On its website, IND factors in a drivetrain loss of 15 percent for drivetrain losses, which suggests a true crank output of 547 hp and 486 lb-ft of torque—a whole lot more than what BMW claims. Even if the losses were more like 5 to 8 percent, figures which have been cited as more typical of modern drivetrains, it's very likely the M2 is making close to 500 hp.

Kinda reminds me of the E60 M5 6mt... it seems the 6mt in the M2 is not really calibrated for the car base on the reviews.

At least it has one. Count your blessings on that alone.

Most manuals these days are total afterthoughts and marketing ploys at best. Only ones that continue to sorta do it right are BMW, Ford, Porsche, and Honda (CTR and CSi). No one else cares lol.
