Care for leather seats?

I have a NBP TL-S with the 2-toned grey/black soft leather seats and I'm not a huge guy (175lbs wife is 110lbs) or anything but feel the seats are getting really wrinkled up & I've only had the car 1 year. The 08 Type-S has much softer leather than my 05 TL so I was just wondering if anyone is using any special leather care products. Not to mention my wife dripped hand sanitizer on the seat & it burned off the outer soft layer in a spot, wtf! Thanks.

i have the same problem in my 07 after 1 year they got rinkled up to and its starting to wear now, I use Armorall leather care to clean it and soften the leather up but i don't think there is anything we can do, when it gets too bad i guess i'll have it redone by a shop or buy new ones

I know Armorall is usually crap but this is like a new leather care product which i bought for like $13, and it works nice and gives the new leather smell again to the car... btw that's the only Armorall product i use....

i feel the leather in our TL's is crap, my 01 Pontiac had better leather. i've had my seat bottom and seat back replaced by the dealer over the last year. it wasn't for wrinkles but the wearing away of the color dye. right now i use Optimum and Zaino, so far they're holding up.

Your 01 Pontiac didn't have REAL LEATHER. It had Vinyl that looked like Leather. Just a FYI.

Yeah its kinda wearing out too, you said the dealer replaced them? sweet. They also need to fix the little rust spot under the littel door for the gas! WTF!

And the Acura has coated leather ..

Here is some good reading ... in the end your not treating the leather .. your treating the coating.

don't use armor-all, it's horrible for your car!!!!

Best OTC product to use are the lexol twins, lexol conditioner and cleaner. These will help protect it and clean it, however it won't be able to remove any wrinkles.

Leatherique is an AMAZING product that will clean and restore any type of leather, I've used it on my 04 TL this year and it make 5 year old leather look like factory fresh leather. It removes many of the finer wrinkles and deeply cleans and protects, I have not seen a new wrinkle on the leather after using it.

Actually the best to use for interior panels and dash is Aerospace 303. Rated best by many detailers. Even Acura recommends it in a TSB.

For Leather, Zaino and Lexol I would recommend. Zaino works better making the leather softer, and smells good.

I hate to say this to a moderator but thats a bunch of "crap" based on old information related to thier dressing. Not all of thier products are "boutique" but in most cases no different than most .. but least of all damaging.

Matter of fact thier leather conditioner, which does a good job on our coated leather, is just fine. Maybe not as good as Lexols marketing or the others but it is "marketing".

And is what I use .. and have used for about 3 years and my leather in my TL is just fine.

What is damaging to your leather is dirt ...

Don't be afraid to say anything! Just because I'm a mod doesn't mean anything! The right thing is the right thing! I've always been told and have seen the damage done by armor-all, however it's been maybe 2-3 years since I saw the last one, maybe they reforumulated..

The only thing that was ever an issue with Armorall was many years ago and all it concerned was thier original Armorall spray on dressing which supposedly promotted cracking on vinyl dashboards and even this was from what I understand not totally substantiated. Thier reformulated dressing is not much different than the rest of the white dressings. I could go into more detail but it would be off topic from the original post.

Two local dealers recommended Lexol leather conditioner. I was thinking of trying Connolly Hide Food on my seats, seemed to work well on my other cars..

Since our leather is coated, I also use Aerospace 303 on it.

Comments anyone?

I like Leatherique and Connolly products the best for conditioning and restoring leather. They work REALLY well on my 03 TL-S. The leather feels like brand new. I usually use those once a mont and every time I wash the car, once a week, I use Coach leather cleaner and conditioner or Restoration Hardware Leather CPR.

Yes it does. The manuf. says it's ok to use on coated leather. My seats are nice and supple.

I see that some of you have recommended Zaino. I have a 07 TL-S w/ Taupe interior. I used Zaino 9 and zaino 10. After that application I saw some pigment flaking off the driver seat and also on the door insert. Has any one experienced this? I also have a thread started for this with not many responses. I will appreciate feedback.

Rick, I haven't had that happen to my car. I too, use the Zaino leather products and love the look and smell.

By the way, someone once told me that any skin care product with 100% lanolin in it is great for auto leather interior. It allows the pores in the leather to breathe.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think that applied to non coated leathers not coated leather like in our car seats.

Zymol is good stuff. I got a bottle of cleaner and a bottle of conditioner at Target. I cleaned the leather, then massaged the conditioner into the seats and let it soak in for a day. I then buffed the leather and hit it with the cleaner again. Much softer and got rid of some wrinkles and the 03 leather looks new again (in most spots, lol).

Ok so I'm gonna make this my little weekend project. I'm going to go with 303 Aerospace for the dash & doors and Zaino Z10 for the seats...

You guys agree?

Just placed the order for the Zaino cleaner & protectant...shipping sucked at $9 on a $20 order. I'll also get the 303 for the dash & doors. Thanks.

I used to use Lexol, and still have the Conditioner and Cleaner, but ever since I discovered Leather Masters, I switched. The leather is softer than what I could get with Lexol, and they also have professional products to restore (i.e. take out wrinkles) your leather. They are not cheap, but worth the price.

Guys, I use the 303 on the dash and any plastics and/or vinyl inside the cabin. It's great for sun protection. When I had a convertible, I used the 303 Protectant on the vinyl ragtop to protect it and keep the top supple...it's great stuff and worth the money.

The Zaino leather stuff is outstanding...you can take that to the bank. It smells awesome too-just like brand new leather. Zaino also makes a leather cleaner. If you haven't cleaned your seats lately, I would recommend using the cleaner first, then use the Z-10 leather protectant.

Sorry for taking so long to repost and report my review of the Zaino product but thanks to JMKiang's advice I was VERY happy with the products. The cleaner does an awesome job by simply liberally spraying all over the seats & wiping it right up. My rags were super dirty after each seat. I started on the rear seats, head rest, doors, etc and then moved to the front. I followed up with the Leather in a Bottle which I was nervous about because I didn't want it shinny nor smelling too leather like but this was the perfect finish. The interior looks and smells NEW...no excessive shine nor complaints here. I tried using quite a bit of the product and actually still ended up with like 1/3 of the products still left over. Great products and I will definitely use again!

What happened to the dash?

you said that you also bought the 303 and were going to try it out. how did it go? what was the total cost for this adventure? did $9 take care of the entire order?
glad to hear that your seats are better.

303 is great for all the plastic trim in the car. Spray it on a damp MF towel, wipe all the surfaces, then wipe dry with a clean MF towel. Leaves a very slight gloss that doesn't attract dust.

Izzy, great to hear about the Zaino products working for you! With the Z10, remember that you don't have to use a ton to get great results.
