Fog light mod (Alternate version)

Does anyone have any problems with one foglight not turning on until you turn them off and back on again? Or if you turn them off and back on, the other turns on and the original one turns off? Then you have to keep pressing the button on/off in order for both of them to turn on...
I bought a foglight relay kit on ebay, but it does the same thing. I'm thinking that the foglight switch needs a constant +12v source that doesn't get cut when turning on the car.

yea im going to check on bay today. But i guess im going to have to custom fit and wire some hids in there. Any suggestion on how to wire them? I know im going to have to get power from the battery directly with a relay. But any suggestion on how to turn them on/off? Maybe i can use a TL fog switch somehow?

This is for the 02/03 TL Models.
Here is the pinout/wiring color code for the fog light switch for the 02/03 models.
I had tested the states of these wires under the following conditions:
Blue w/ Red stripe = +12V when button is pushed and headlights are on
Whie w/ Red stripe = +12V when headlights are on
Red w/ Black stripe = +12V when parking lights are on
Provided by Pianoman41
1. White/Blue - Ground side of indicator light (green light that shows fogs are on)
2. Blue/Red - Power to passenger side footwell relay
3. White/Red - Power from headlight switch
4. Red/Black - Power from taillight relay
5. Red - Connection to dash light brightness controller
Now the fog light mod has the white/red and the red/black tied together. I assume that by hooking these two together, it fakes the switch into thinking that the headlights are on so that you can turn on the fogs. NOW! What if you want the fog lights on without the parking lights on??
Would the solution be to supply the white/red wire (headlight switch) +12Vs? Possibly from a source that is HOT when the key is in the ignition?? Will the white/red wire be enough or will the red/black wire also have to be supplied 12Vs?
One more question, if that solution suggested above works, should diodes be inserted?

It was easy to do, we messed up by putting the diode in backwards lol, but it was straight forward, i'm about to by HID fogs then switch back LED turn signals. SO PUMPED

Wow...such an easy mod. Too bad I got raped on the prices for add-a-circuit and diodes.....ended up paying $20 for both parts. But I blew $20 for something stupid before, so this was money well spent. Initially had problem when I didn't push Tap-a-tap hard enough to make a solid connection. Once that got figured out, it was easy. I would probably prefer to run 6000K HID fogs for DRL and turn factory DRL on high beam off. Any suggestions other than pulling out the fuse for DRL?

Super old but updated... works better than it did before. Now you can have your fogs on and crank w/o them shutting off.
Instrumental Panel Fuse # 9 Driver side to Add-a-circuit to diode to white/red wire on the harness on the fog light switch.
You could also use these for DRLs if you like since the parking lights dont come on with it.

He is located in Japan so maybe no Radio Shack? But since Japan is electronic mecca, probably not hard to find. Ebay is also a cheap option if can't find locally as a lot of vendors sell 10 diodes for like $5.

woah...literally went through this whole thread.. im thinking about doing this mod down the line once i learn where my harness runs through an stuff. not so knowledgeable in these arts my 03 tl-p only came with one oem fog lamp. i bought it used. problem is that it doesnt have wiring connected to the lamp or even dangling. i ordered yellow fogs from ebay but they dont come with wiring harness. would i need to buy one or could my wires be somewhere under my hood?

I just did the fog light mod where you swap the two wires on the switch. I just want the fogs to come on with the parking lights and headlights so thats why I just did that mod. Everything works great, but only problem is the green light on the fog light switch doesn't light up when the fogs are on. Not sure why.

The indicator light on the switch has to do with pin 1.
Pin 1 (white/blue): Connects to ground. And this terminal goes to the (-) side of the indicator lamp inside the switch, to complete the circuit.
The + side of the indicator lamp gets its voltage from pin 3 (white/red) which you already connected correctly since this powers your fog lights.

Power from the taillight relay connects to the dash light brightness controller.
You need Pin 1 to be connected to ground for the indicator light to work when the button is pressed.

Because it doesn't have a closed circuit to make current run through the indicator light. It needs a connection to ground via pin 1 to complete the circuit. Look at the diagram in the Service Manual on pg. 22-157....you need to wire the switch like this to supply a closed circuit of current to the indicator light.

Fog light mod diagram
Whats up people, I found this whole post quite difficult to understand and had to read it several times. I have made a diagram of how I understand this mod to work. Please look at it and let me know if it is right, and if so share it.

I realize this thread is a million years old but I just bought a 02 TL and have started modding. I've looked and have been unable to find pictures/d.i.y. of how to get to the switches. The rest is pretty straight forward and I understand it. any help would be appreciated. Thanx

Remove the fuse panel on the left side on the driver side. There should be a screw there and under the dash near to obd reader there is another screw. I think after that it just pops right off. It's been 6 years or so since the mod and I haven't had to go back in there.
The switch you just push to pop out.
