06-07 accord trans swap
#361
If you elect to swap everything from the TL then you will need the Acura TL filter. If you keep the accord filter assembly then you will need the Honda Accord filter. There are 2 different schools of though behind the decision, easier filter swaps with the TL assembly and keeping everything associated with the Accord transmission as the Honda Engineers intended. I am not sure if it makes a difference as it is too early in the game to say. Has anyone given this any thought? I noticed someone ask the questions earlier in the thread.

I'm getting mine done this weekend and they agreed to do the rear main seal with it. Do I need to buy one for an 07 Accord or for my 03 TL? Going by Honda tomorrow to pick up the stuff. Thanks in advance!

Got my TL back from the shop yesterday. Guy there is a bit of a hick and had never worked on an Acura before. He kept calling to say he'd never do another one again because of the front end disassembly needed haha. He said they got everything done ok and it was $575 for the install. I paid $800 for my AV6 out of an 07 with 90K on it. Drives great. Was getting a bit of a hard shift in and out of 3rd at first but it seemed to die down on my way to work this morning. I'm thinking it's just getting acclimated to new fluid. They did a full flush on her with 10 quarts and both filters. Seems to be doing well though. I don't see much change in steering except for at a dead stop but even then it's minimal. Then again I'm at 270K on my TL so steering is pretty far from feeling new. I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking to do a swap. And for those in Indy there's a shop here with experience now that you might be able to talk into doing your swap.

What would your cost have been without the warranty? I'm in KC (Lenexa), and am getting close to needing to do the swap - my '02 at 212K is on its 4th tranny and I'm noting some slippage on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. I'll definitely look into using Angle's Transmission if I end up needing to go this route.

So my 2006 Honda accord tranny has been in my 2000 acura to for two weeks now. My mechanic charged me 700 to do the swap and 800 for av6 tranny with 60k from local junk yard...
My first thought after driving it was damn this power steering issue is going to blow.... But I've gotten used to it as much as possible but it still is not fun at low speeds.
Tranny shifts smoother, no check engine lights, don't need to downshift going up a hill or to pass someone any more.
In the 2 weeks I've had it I've driven 2,000 miles ( its my work car) so I will keep uguys updated as I rack up the miles

Nope, haven't had to have it done yet as my transmission is still hanging in there. I will go with Rob when it needs to be done, though. Quick question - is it Angel's or Angle's?
#372
It's Angel's Transmission (near I35 and Johnson Dr. http://angelstransmission.com/ )
I'm picking up a 60k AV6 in Carbondale, KS tomorrow. $1,025 since I won't have a core to give back to the parts dealer i'm getting it from.
I ordered all the parts from Hondapartsunlimited since no one in the city wanted to sell me parts at a decent price (all were ~30% over what I paid)...so i'll have to spend probably another week carpooling to get my wife to work and daughter to daycare...anyone know what to do with a burnt up 2000 TL tranny?

2006 AV6 pics
Well I got her home. I looked it over when i picked it up and everything looked in tact and in good shape. The warmer on top of it had some fluid still leaking out and it looked like brand new fluid, so i'm taking that as a good sign.
Anything specific I should check for now that I have it home? Here's a couple pictures of the AV6:

At this moment my mechanic is working on the car, he was ready to put everything together and noticed that the drive plate that is on the car is not mounting to the Accord trans torque converter. Does anybody had this problem? I dont what could be wrong , any suggestions!! Please i need this car running asap any help is appriciated!!

Welcome Xavier Type-S !!!
What year of Accord V-6 did the tranny come out of ? Maybe the yard gave ya something else different ?

The '06>'07 Accord V6 tranny for the most part is a direct bolt in replacement.
Can't recall of anybody having similar issues with the drive plate mounting up, but hopefully the yard gave ya the right tranny.....sometimes they will cross reference available trannys.
How far off is the actual difference in the mounting alignment ? If it's considerably off.....something is apparently wrong, IDK. Maybe someone more experienced will chime in.

Assuming that the transmission is from an '06-07 Accord V6, is tightly bolted up to the block all around, and the input shaft is not bent, it's possible that the torque converter that they gave you is somehow not from the AV6 transmission.
#384
Take a picture of the TC/Trans and the mounting point and get the serial number from the transmission. It should be on a plate on the transmission, should start with BAYA or MAYA if I remember correctly. Post both here.

Hey guys !!! Thanks for your replies. The problem was that the yard gave me an 05 trans. I called the yard and told them ,they took back the trans and gave me a 07 trans with 77000 miles and for the same price i paid for the first trans they gave me which was $850 and gave me an extra 30 days warranty. Thank God because I was going crazy and thanks to you guys for the help!! Cant wait to drive my baby again. Hopefully everything goes well!!!

that is what we thought at the beginning , but we went to a small auto parts recycling yard and they have several years drive plate in stock and we measured them all and they were all the same except the 05 one that is how we figured everything out!!

Hey KeithSrt408, have ya checked the codes yet ? May be something simple or loose ?

Complete!
Well, it's been a little over a week since I've gotten my '00 TL back with the '06 AV6 and it's night and day difference!
All the stutter is gone, nice solid pull when I hit the gas, and it's SMOOOOOOTH.
Tranny does jump a little when I absolutely stomp on it, but I don't plan on doing that...well...ever.
I ended up putting a new Torque Converter in, as Rob at Angels said the TC on the used one looked a lot like the ones he's pulled out as bad. Something about the color of the TC. It was another $200, but I didnt' want to have to tow this sucker back into the shop with a TC failure. Also replaced all the relevant gaskets, pressure switches and the rear main seal.
I was quoted $500 for the labor as I was bringing all the parts. Long story short - my parts order got FUBAR'd on it's way here and I ended up having Rob provide pretty much all the parts except for the tranny and the rear main. He also provided all the fluid necessary at $8.50/qt for DW1. For pulling all that together he charged another hour labor.
Total installed cost:
Used Tranny - $1,098 (incl. $150 core charge)
Other parts and labor - $1,017 (Rob offered $50 for the tranny core - good enough for me)
Time in shop - 3 days
$2,115 all in
RPMs are in line with everyone else who has commented previously. 2500 at 80mph. just under 3k at 95.
With respect to the change in steering - I wish I'd have known about the secondary pump before...I'd have unhooked it with the old tranny. LOVE the new, stiffer steering. Reminds me of racing go-karts as a kid!
Gas mileage is up slightly...165/half tank, but I've not exactly been babying it. And the fact that it's SO much smoother, you don't realize you're doing 90 in a 65...
If anyone has any questions, I'll do my best to answer them. If anyone in the Kansas City area is considering the conversion and doesn't want to do it themselves I HIGHLY recommend Angel's Transmission in Merriam.
Thanks to this community for all the information! I love the conversion!!!

Finally got my swap done after months of trials and tribulations. For the life of me I couldn't find any mechanic or shop in Central Florida who would do the swap until I found a posting here on Acurazine about Acutech Automotive in West Palm Beach. I called them up and spoke to the Chief mechanic Konrad who had actually been a legitimate Acura tech for some 13 years. He knew all about the swap and had preformed one previously so I didn't have to go through the hassle of explaining and bringing the print outs and what not.
I thought I would have to get my car towed down to West Palm all 169 miles from Orlando or whenever my transmission gave out but my 03 drove true and I made it there in a straight shot. I dropped it off 3/3/2014 and came back 3/7/2014 to pick her up. Would've been sooner but I was relying on the Greyhound for my to'and'fro between cities.
All in all I paid 960.00$ for an AV6 with 69K, 150.00$ for a new Torque Converter and 600$ labor for the swap for a total of 1,750 after tax with 6 months warranty. He even replaced my rear motor mount, transmission motors and external fluid filter that I had sitting in my trunk no charge. He also dropped me off and picked me up from the Bus station in West Palm which was cool off him and I remember shorting him 5$ because he didn't have change which was awesome.
All in all the car drives spectacular with some slightly rough shifting into 3rd that I expect to smooth out after the 1k flush which seems to be common for the swap. I'll post in the follow up thread when I hit 1k.
If anyone needs the swap done in Central or South Florida be sure to check out Acutech in West Palm!!
