00 TL stuck in park!! and no brake lights

hi i am new to this site and thanks for taking the time to read my post.

problem: car will not shift out of park unless i press the override switch next to the shift lever. once the car is out of park i have no brake lights. i have checked the fuses, but all looked good. could it be the brake light switch or something else?

It could be the brake switch behind the pedal. Check there.

Brake switch most likely.

fuse `looked` good? they either pass electrical test, or you insert a spare
thats how to be sure its working~

the brake switch gets loose or wears out,,easy diy,,aftermarket part ok

It is not a bulb since he is not able to get it out of park. it is more than likely the brake switch. I have had bulbs go bad and I could still get out of park.

brake light switch

Will changing the brake light switch also get my car out park without having to use the override switch?

assuming ALL- that's each and every bulb in the back is working- its usually the switch at pedal
Can be loose screws and out of adjustment, or simply worn out from 15 years of use
Easy DIY
also when its a bulb failure there should be a brake LAMP warning on the dash
