Check your motor mounts!!

Car has a 110K on the clock.

I was completely shocked when taking off my mounts. I changed the front and rear mounts. the side mount will have to be done later as i will have to make a new bottom or top plate to make it work.

I installed the XLR8 mounts and they fit perfectly in the front and rear. I put vacuum caps on the vacuum lines to the mounts.

The front motor mount was complete garbage along with the rear mount. both mounts i have no idea how they even did their job properly. as you can see in the video below.

the side mount was not in bad shape at all compared to the others one minor tear.

So here are some pictures of the Carnage mount.

Video of how bad the front mount actually was

Using the XLR8 Mounts you can not use the vacuum for the mount so i bought a few vacuum caps and secured it with a zip tie.

XLR8 Front mount inplace.

So far i have driven 50 miles on the mounts. just a little bit of vibration at idle especially if the A/C is on. I am not complaining at all i know the urthane mounts will outlive the OEM replacement mounts. God knows how long these mounts have been like this.

Spent $300 on the mounts.
3 hours total time to do the front and back mount.

Thanks for the tip! Quick question though, as I haven't really looked for the location of these, where are these mounts located? Sorry 'bout the noob question.

front mount is center of car.. you need to remove the radiator fans (7 10mm bolts and couple electrical connectors) Rear motor mount is center of the car in the back of the firewall. pain to get to but air tools are nice to have. Passanger side mount sits right next to the power steering reservoir

Ooh, vacuum for motormounts, new thing for me
If they get broken, does it create a vacuum leak?

Common indications are a *clunk* when shifting from park to reverse to drive, a jerk in the engine when shifting P->R->D, a jerk/*clunk* from the engine if the brakes are applied and a light throttle is given in gear, a significant delay between shifts from P->R->D (the RL has a normal ~2-3 second delay inherently), a *clunk* from the engine bay during aggressive driving, or a significantly rough idle.

Transmission mounts were an issue for me in Legend #1, and I am sure they are no exception here if we have them. Honda mounts blow.

Depending on the mount(s) that have failed, you can get vibration at certain rpms or rates of acceleration. I know this because I have that. Apparently when the mounts go, sometimes they can let the engine move enough under power that the inner CV joints of the axles are put at a bad angle and start to vibrate.

Now that Carbon has given a favorable review, I'm going to order up a set of XLR8 mounts and see if that solves my problems. May also need to change my transmission mount, which doesn't come with the XLR8 set. Someone else has said that just doing the XLR8 locks down the engine enough that you don't have to worry about the tranny mount.

I believe (not 100% sure) that the vacuum lines allow the OEM mounts to be nice and cushy at idle to prevent vibration, and then stiffen up under acceleration to keep the engine from moving around too much.

do they all have vacuum lines ? all 3 mounts ? direct engine vac or through some computer controlled regulator ?

Might be worth disconnecting them if low vac = stiff

Make 'em into XLR8's for free before they wear themselves out...

The set can be found at: http://store.excelerateperformance.c.../i-300870.aspx

You can also buy them individually: http://store.excelerateperformance.c.../i-542459.aspx

They're technically for the TL, but the front and rear fit no problem, the side mount apparently is a little trickier. Someone in another thread said that he got it in, but only with two of the three bolts.

I don't know if all of the OEM mounts have vacuum lines, but I would imagine that low vac = loose, and higher vacuum would stiffen them up. That's just my intuition though.

Edit: the link for the individual mounts seems to be broken, they were $125 each. Would probably just have to email them and ask for the new link.

I just ordered a set from the link above, and if you use the coupon code "swoosh", it looks like you get free shipping. Saved me $20 or so I think. For other places that "swoosh" works, check out https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/coupon-code-called-swoosh-more-coupon-codes-added-8-15-12-a-858266/

Carbon, any tips or tricks for swapping these out? Did you put a jack under the oil pan to take the pressure off the mounts?

put a block of wood on jack and raised it up until i seen the motor take the pressure and raise slightly. rear motor mount is the toughest one. the pass side mount i am working on fabricating a adapter plate to make it work

Figured i would update you all.. The passenger motor mount was a joke as well. So i got out the welder today and tackled the passenger side mount. Total time spent was about a hour.
Tools used.
Millermatic 212 mig welder
sawzall
DA grinder
90* straight edge
VHT Black wrinkle paint

First i had to cut the mount in order to make it work since the holes are off on the bracket.

here is the mount in place with the cut off bracket. Just showing the bolt holes that i used to hold the mount in place.

I took a marker and 90* angle and marked 4 marks across the mount for alignment. and tack welded them in place to check fitment.

and the finished mount after welding and grinding it all smooth. I threw a couple coats of wrinkle black on there to get the same look as the other mounts. but i failed to get a picture of that.

I bought the kit as well, would you be willing to do the same for my side mount? What would you want for your time and effort? Now that you have the correct dimensions, you should give them to XLR8 so they can make a version for the RL. I bet they'd have quite a market.

wow great job. dam only if i know i could have gone with xlr8 ones. mine were completely shot front and side at 95k miles. i kept feeling the jolt when accelerating, so i knew they were gone. surprised that the rear is fine for now. question is the rear just bold on no modding from Xlr8?

rear mount is pretty much the same as the front mount just backwards. if i were you i would switch all to XLR8. takes about a week to get use to the light vibration if you use the 65a durometer mounts. do not go any higher because they will rattle you crazy

If I missed it, I apologize, but do you mind pointing us where to look in order to check our mounts? Following service manual diagrams is about as easy as using the AZ search.

I know this is an ancient thread but I just had this mod done. Does anyone know if not properly calling the vacuum lines can cause a check emissions message?

Carbon, pretty clean install. Are you still happy with the XLR8 mounts? You mentioned a little vibration at idle after 50 miles- any regrets after ditching the stock mounts?

Yeah super common problem on the six cylinder acuras usually after 75k miles or age cause the mounts are designed to provide a comfortable ride

Fit for 2009?

Has anyone had any luck getting the excelerate mounts into a 2009?

I just tried replacing the front mount, but the bolt pattern seems slightly different.

I'm thinking I need to return these and settle for oem mounts.

Update: the excelerate mount does fit the 2009, I just had to separate the 2 pieces of the new mount, rotate them 180 degrees, and reassemble. Everything fit perfectly from there.

The car goes into gear and shifts much better once again with this installed.

Carbon when removing and installing the side mounts…what parts in the car do you remove? Washer bottle? Power steering bottle etc? there is also a piece with lots of wires runners on the side should that be removed.

Also for the side mount do i jack the side etc? or jack the bottom front motor

Im new to all this sorry if i didn't follow the rules just jumping on here but exactly what your describing is whats hapening to my 06 tl and i already had them replaced ones before my mounts that is. I been looking for info on a better brand than oems since they seem not to hold out long i guess XLR8 mounts it is.
