Arrow Which Clutch should I get for my 2003 6 speed CL?

I'm having a hard time deciding, mainly due to the price of the aftermarket clutch master kit, and limited production on replacement clutches!!

So i've decided to make a poll to get the general opinion, hoping that will help me decide.....

My options are:
1. Acura/Honda OEM replacement, Price is 310
2. Exedy oe replacement, Price is 320
3. Mrheeltoe clutch kit, (whenever available) Price is comparable to CM kit.
4. Clutch Masters kit w/ lightweight flywheel (stage 1, or 3) Price is 1100-1300

Discuss! Would like to replace it soon, however should I save money for the clutchmaster kit?

well currently i just have a K&N drop in filter, keeping it Naturally aspirated I believe, unless I find a Comptech supercharger that I can afford....

eventually i'll be adding common bolt on's such as headers, lighter crank pulley, short ram or cold air intake, and possibly a greddy exhaust since I have a midpipe....

I don't intend on selling this car.....I'm looking toward the OEM replacements since they are only 300, and in my price range....eventually I feel the decesion will be between the Exedy/Daiken or the OEM Honda/Acura kit!!!!

I would go for OEM. The "jiggling" it makes after you shift, from the OEM clutch, is what makes this car more fun to drive than your average manual transmission. If you have a 6-Speed CL you know what im talking about...

If your looking towards the lower end of the price spectrum, just go with the Honda unit.

However my money is with ClutchMasters when the time comes.

Jacob - I dont know what jiggling your talking about.

i have heard that CM ones arent good for our cars i recommend oem as well CM start sliping after couple thousand miles. oem one grabs good with CTSC even after 100k miles ofc depend on the driver. but if you go oem replace flywheel too. i just resurfaced it and its not so smooth as i expected

I haven't heard of any instances of the CM slipping on our cars. Do you have links?

cb717cls: So has anyone figured out a good clutch setup to put in there car? i have a boosted cl and put a CM fx300 setup in it after about 3500 miles it is starting to slip. i dont know if i should go to the fx400 6 puck or is there something better that will last and hold up?

Do you have an OEM Acura Clutch or an aftermarket?

I'm leaning toward the OEM Honda replacement....it is actually the cheapest after shipping....

I feel that its capable of handling those bolt ons...

There's no jiggling in my shifter. It feels tight. Could be a tad bit tighter. I'd like those corsport bushings. I'm using the Honda MTF but plan on switching to the GM stuff that everyone raves about.
OP- I say if the bolt-ons that you want were already on the car I might think of a performance clutch. However they are not. You may never get to them. But later on if you did some NA or SC mods you should be fine with a new oem clutch. From what I've read the stock unit can hold up to an awful lot of punishment.

your right as far as the parts, it just seems the most feasible at the moment...are you refering to GM syncromesh? I think i'll try it out as well!

Yup im talking about the syncromesh fm to be exact. Everyone likes it. The honda stuff was good for a while and better than the regular oil that was in it. But now my shifts feel notchy again so its out. Soon.
I've got lots of bolt-ons right now and 47k. My clutch still grabs like crazy... I'm happy with it. Don't see a replacement in my future until this one fails.

Daiken makes the OEM Honda clutch so there should absolutly no difference between them except price
also exedy is just the american brand/name for Daiken

and the oe cluch should have no problem holding the power with only bolt ons
also by the time you buy one cm clutch you could have bought 3-4 oe clutches minus labour

also remember to include the throw out bearing and pilot bearing prices if they are not included in the clutch kits cause those will need to be done too

As far as I know, the OEM unit is the only one with a self adjusting pressure plate. For cost and your mods, OEM is the way I would go unless you don't like the way the dual mass flywheel drives.

i would go with the Oem for your setup since u dont have too many mods right now it should hold up to the mods ur gonna be putting into it too. Cm was a good clutch for the first 3k miles im still waiting on them to see if they can figure out what happened to it.

Ok, i just made a video as promised. Turn your volume up all the way, the video isn't very loud. You can clearly hear the "Jiggling" after each of my shifts when i am shifting at normal RPM's in the first half of the video. You can also just ignore when i started to go fast, i did that part for fun . (PS.- Sorry for the bad shifting when i was flooring it, my clutch is slipping and is going to get replaced.)

I think that "jiggling" is either from a slipping clutch or letting off the clutch too fast when you're changing gears. I used to do it when I first started driving stick. I don't see how that could be more fun than hearing a smooth shift.

nope my previous cl did it too and it had a new clutch. I am shifting the car properly, if i let it out slower that would just be over-reving it

It's not poor shifting, this is what a CL does when being shifted at normal RPM's. I have been driving stick for 3 constant years, im not new to this. It might not be the clutches that make the CL do this, im now thinking it could just be the duel mass flywheels that give it this effect.

Also, you have a TL with the CL swap, there could be 50+ reasons for shifting differences. Your car has a different structure than a CL with a slightly different weight distribution this could also be why your car has a different feel when shifting.
