Sloppy Stick Shift

It sounds a lot dirtier than it is. I have a loose feeling stick shift No but seriously I’d like to get more precise shifting. Even when enagaged in a gear is I can wiggle the shift knob and there is just too much play. Coincidentally I had a difficult time shifting into 1st gear today. Wondering if its related.

Any input?

Play in the shifter and difficulty getting it to engage in different gears CAN be unrelated issues. Difficulty engaging in gears can be attributed to insufficient hydraulic pressure in the clutch line. You might have a worn clutch master or slave cylinder, or even a leak in the hose, which is less likely. If you truly think you have enough play in the cables to cause a serious issue such as not being able to get it into gear, then there are a few things to look at. The easiest thing to replace would be the shifter bushings mounted on the lever arms on the transmission. You can replace them with delrin units or even spherical bearings to completely remove play there. There are also rubber bushings below the plastic shifter base that have a little bit of play in them that can be replaced with washers if you're going for a very notchy feel. Though I feel that rubber shifter base bushings help to take out some of the unwanted vibrations while cruising.

Simply replacing the factory bushings with new factory bushings will make a big difference. I did so a couple years ago and it was night and day (this was after removing those CoSport bushings).

These are 14 year old vehicles. The rubber in the bushings are getting really old and worn just like those in the motor mounts and other areas. Putting in new rubber ones will have a big impact.

Can you provide an Acura/Honda OEM link that allows you to purchase said bushings individually?

It appears on the link below that one has to purchase #8; 54310-S3M-A01 WIRE, CHANGE; for around $140 to get the OEM bushes:

Is it only when the car is cold? My cl-s6 has troubles going into 1st when it is extremely cold and before the car has warmed up to operating temps. Although its always cold in MN anyways haha

May want to change your transmission fluid. I'm in MN too and have no issues with cold shifting. I make sure to replace the fluid every 30-60k miles for smooth shifting all the time.

Forget oem bushings and corsport. Buy Hybrid Racing ones. My shifts are like butta.

I think that unless you have a gated shifter...most cars are designed to have that slop to please the masses since not everyone is racekor driver like us.
