You may have a bad VSS or it may be unplugged. It's on top of the transmission, passenger side of the vehicle. It has a plug and wire attached to it and is mounted on the trans with a single 10mm bolt. Does the vehicle rev past 3k rpms and are you hitting vtec?

Also on some of the trans the vss is removed and the countershaft speed sensor is used to determine vehicle speed. Since your speedometer stays at 0 then the odometer does not read any mileage increase either.

I believe in either case you need to replace the vss/ cs speed sensor. This will fix both issues simultaneously.

If you gave more info about your car I could see which sensor you have. Whats your engine and trans type?

If you had a scan tool, you could see if your ECU is reading speed. If it is, your problem could just be your dash.

My dash is very finicky. When I turn the headlights on, I have to slap the top of the dash just the right way to get the lights that illuminate the pointers to go on. When I have the time, I'm taking the dash out and have me a soldering party.

You need to buy new bulb bases. I had the same issue in my CL. new bases fixed it. Very cheap too.
