My tl has 137k. Steering wheel has been shaking once I'm over 60 mph. Recently had a cv axle replaced. This problem was occurring before and after.
Car is aligned, and tires have under 8k miles.

Could this be timing belt issues ??

Do you have the alignment sheet? Are you sure the tires are properly balanced & inflated?



And no, it is most likely not a timing belt issue. What makes you think it could be?

Acura recommends it being replaced at 90k. Was never done by previous owner.

Bent wheel, unbalanced wheel, warped rotors, bad motor mounts, incorrect tire pressure, worn suspension.

You might want to consider doing the TB service soon.

Someone please explain how a timing belt will cause vibration at highway speeds. Never heard of that...

The most common cause of steering wheel vibration at higher speeds comes from warped rotors as a result of overtightening the lug nuts which should only be tightened to 80 ft-lbs. If they just used the airgun when they last installed the front wheels ................

If you don't get pulsation at the pedal and the floor when braking at high speed (70mph/120kph) it can't be warped rotors. But if the wheels are unbalanced they will shake on braking too which makes diagnosing difficult. Unbalanced wheels tend to sometimes ride smooth too so is it all the time, most of the time or sometimes?
Go get a wheel balance from a good shop that does tires. This is a highly overlooked option and also the cheapest. Tires can lose their balance as they wear. If there is a rim bent the tech will tell you.

The shaking is happening at about 60 MPH. Once I get to a steady speed say 70 MPH it will stop. I've noticed going up hills/accelerating it tends to happen more than when I'm coasting/decelerating.


Braking is ok doesn't seem to be a problem right now.

Front brakes were done by me 2 months ago. Did not replace rotors, they were not terrible. I doubt I over tightened the lugs.


I will need to check the balancing of the tire.


the main cause for this post was to see if I have an immediate need to replace the TB. Its obviously a very expensive fix and I cannot do it myself.




Any reccomendations on for places for it to be done in Western ma/Northern CT?

no this is not cause by TB, you need to balance the tire and check to see any loose suspension component. But at this moment the tire is seem more like an issue.

I am currently having the same issue with my 04, it is 6MT with about 85k miles on it. My steering wheel and the whole car in general shakes pretty bad when accelerating from 50-70 MPH. The vibration is impossible to ignore, it is quite bad. Makes no difference if it's in 5th or 6th, when I am cruising at those speeds however the car is stable and smooth. Hard and soft braking is fine and vibration free, it seems to only shakes on acceleration. I had my brakes/suspension and alignment inspected by a respected shop in the area, I also had my tires re balanced this morning but made no difference.

I am leaning towards motor and or transmission mounts at the moment!? It will be back to the shop in a few days and have a more thorough look at the mounts and everything else. Anyone else having this issue or would like to chime in? Please help!

I have the same issue 04 -6 speed 145k Original owner (shaking) between 55-70 when accelerating. I am thinking its the intermediate drive shaft bearing,when I depress the clutch the shaking stops. Any thoughts ?

dude go change your axles.... that's your issue right there. You have a bent axle. the vibrating shows up at around 60-70 mph. I had the same exact issue and just changed mine problem solved. and no it won't be the timing belt and whomever told you that should not be allowed near a car. it won't be a warped rotor because you'd feel that under braking not acceleration.

thank you AZ! Car will be on the lift again soon, axles will be our focal point as we look over everything else.

@Cuban and AZ, was the culprit the passenger or driver axle or both? What brand/type did you use for replacement?

Yup. I Agree. I recently changed by front braked, rotors and pads. I decided to do tire rotation. After that, My wheel started shaking at highway speeds, i thought maybe unbalanced wheel so i got them balanced. They were unbalanced except the shaking didn't go away. So i went back and after closer look, the guy say that my tires are bumpy. It was very subtle, but he showed my at an angle that you can see some of surface of the tire is uneven with the rest. Some parts are higher, some lower. So I asked him to put my front tires in back and shaking went away as my back tires were OK. I will need to change my tires soon.

But, i guess there can be many different sources for the same problem

I'm having the same issue guys... had my tires aligned and balanced, the problem is still there.

The difference with some of you is that I do feel my break pedal move as if my rotors are warped and steering also goes left and right when i break hard at high speed. When breaking at slow speed the car slows down un-evenly... sounds like warped disks right?

Would replacing the disks fix this? or could it be also a bent axle?

I used auto zone durolast gold, lifetime replacement on them. Seem to be good so far.
