When I went to go replace the three rear spark plugs on my 2008 TL-S, one of them, the rear one closest to the driver, had some oil on it. I tired to get as much oil out of the spark plug tube as I could.

Do I need another valve cover gasket? What could be the cause of oil in the spark plug tube? I just passed 100K miles.

remove upper intake
remove valve cover
replace tube seals
reinstall valve cover
reinstall upper intake

That's, I'm guessing, roughly 1.5-2.5 hours of labor for a moderately skilled person.

its more on the 3.5 hours depend on the front or rear bank, its similar to to do a valve adjustment minus the replace the tube seal.

I'm probably going to have the dealer do this and add it to the timing belt service.

do the TL have the issue where the water pump was not machine correctly and make weird noise?

no that price is all for TB/WP along withe the tube seal, the tube seal alone will cost you around $550.

yeah they did for the early 07 model, however mine is one of early early 07 model, sticker said Oct 06 and did not cause the noise described as TSB.

Hmmm. If that's the case, I might have to take a stab at the tube seal. If I just have to take off the strut bar, all associated hoses from the intake manifold, take off the air intake, and then take off the rear valve cover, that could be worth $500 right there to me.

I could get it done under 4 hours for both bank, however I got a lot of experience by working to clean the dam EGR passage on my old Accord J30A1. All you need is a day in the weekend to get the job done.

Yeah, I guess I could do that myself, just have to keep track of all the hoses, wires, nuts and bolts that I take off. I'm very anal ( ) so that should not be a problem.

I'll probably replace the tube seals and valve cover seal myself. I'll take it to the dealer for the TB and water pump replacement. I can get that done for $900.

Valve adjustment only needs to be done when something is wrong or a code is being thrown.
