Dinged trunk; thinking of carbon fiber replacement
Ok, so somehow my depth perception failed me miserably a few days ago, and I backed into a mailbox. Not just any mailbox, mind you, but one that was attached to a steel post that is anchored in lots of concrete. Mailbox 1, TSX 0.
So the trunk lid is dented and creased pretty badly, and paint is already flaking off. But on the bright side, it still works fine and there's no damage to the taillights.
I'm hoping to find a trunk from a junk yard, but if I can't, I was thinking about a carbon fiber replacement (which will probably cost about the same as the body shop is going to quote me).
Does anybody have experience with carbon fiber trunks? The only options I can find are by VIS Racing; one (the demon) has a lip, and the other is OEM-style. Does VIS have a decent reputation? Are there any other options to consider?

No love for VIS? I'm interested in feedback, good or bad. I have seen reviews on VIS products but they're all several years old and I'm hoping for somebody who has recent experience (and not necessarily with trunks).

I wouldn't go CF simply because it isn't worth the cost and doesn't save much weight (and I don't like the look of it in general on a luxury car).
It's entirely your decision. On my car I'd probably just try to hammer out the dents as best as possible and keep my eye out for a paint matched junkyard replacement.

My original interest in the carbon fiber lid was that it would be a lot cheaper than replacing the original and having to get everything painted. Believe it or not, the estimates ranged between $2200 and $2700 . Also, at the time, I couldn't find a used lid in Carbon Gray Pearl (CGP).
Luckily, after several weeks of trying, I located a lid in CGP, and it should be here soon. I think the carbon fiber would have looked fine with the CGP, but I think I'll be happier with the used OEM lid.
