OK, the problem of intermittent failure to close from ANY remote is now a constant. Even with the original RF remote. The only way to close the door is with the original hard wired wall switch in the garage.

VERY occasionally, my acura homelink will work to close, but wifey's wont and the original remotes never work. They all will open just fine.

I have concluded that the logic board in the opener is toast and I am planning to replace the unit. 20 years isn't bad, it served us well.

Any recommendation on a quality 1/3 (current) or 1/2HP unit?

I cannot imagine needing wifi connectivity with an app to open or close the door (and that costs more than I thinks it's worth anyway), so just a basic opener is needed.

Good brands? Deals?

Trying to figure out the difference between the Chamberlain LW3000EV and HD420EV.

One is at HD and one at Lowe's. Same price.

Might not be any difference at all other than a retailer-specific SKU.

Mine are belt drive. Really quiet.

HD420EV seems to have MyQ which can be used with the Internet Gateway but you said you didn't want that so..

Thanks, Yeah I am not planning on swapping out the chain for a belt, but I read about how quiet they are... I need the loud noise to alert me when the wifey comes home so I can put away the coke and porn and kick the strippers out...

Thanks, I may end up getting the one that is MyQ capable so I can add it later if needed... Plus HD pisses me off and Lowe's doesn't, so.

I hear you man. My gf sometimes sneaks up as I didn't hear her park. That's how you pull something.

Cmon ... Get the MyQ compatible one, get the Internet gateway for 50 bucks or whatever, download the app and set it up for notifications when door opens and closes..

Then when you're just make sure your phone is nearby to get the notification. Or there's an added benefit of when you're not home you can see when the wife brings the other man over .

And most importantly, you don't tell her about that feature. It must remain only your knowledge.

those are the baller models. Mine needs the gateway...

It went in easily, I just replaced the motor, used the existing chain and track. Swapped out the wall controller button and the safety sensors, and then reprogrammed all the cars and the outside code remote.

Finally something doesn't take for times as long as it should and then only partly work... Crap, I just jinxed myself.

mounted the new opener and ran all the wiring for the sensors, locks, etc... i don't have an outlet near the front of the garage so it is currently on an extension cord... once it rains i'll crawl up into the attic to run a dedicated outlet...

now i'm trying to program the Homelink on the cars without having to buy a dumb repeater... why aren't these new units backwards compatible?!?!!!

I think because it uses the new "Security+ 2.0" protocol or something

yes it does... but why it isn't backwards compatible baffles me... now i either have to buy a repeater which eliminates all the advantages of the 2.0 or carry the clicker in my car...

ordered the repeater last night... wasted an hour trying to get the programming on all three cars to work... ended up calling homelink and they said that i was lucky to get halfway thru programming the 2012 car... this new technology usually only works on 2013+ vehicles... i said to the guy, so if i get a new garage door opener, i'm expected to have to buy a new car??? why can't they build this $30 repeater unit into the opener??? that's just bullocks.

I didn't even bother trying the Homelink buttons in my car. Putting the clicker on the visor isn't a big deal.
