Cracked windshield on TLX
Ugh..A tiny rock came out of nowhere and left a nice crack almost dead center, from the bottom to almost middle of the windshield.
I mean i drove my G8 for almost 5yrs without a windshield incident.
I called Safelite, and we went through the insurance process. i have no deductible but still, i feel like they may never replace it as good.
Also aren't there cameras somewhere on that on the windshield.
Maybe i am the first cracked TLX windshield..just my luck

I don't think the cameras are actually "on" the windshield. I don't know if you have the time or the patience, but I would watch them install the replacement windshield. But that's just me.....

My local acura dealer had a glass guy replacing the cracked windshield on a TLX (it wasn't even sold, busted glass on test drive)
Safelite will be fine

That is the only way I would be comfortable with a windshield replacement. Good luck.

You won't need a day off. Guy will be done less than 2 hours

Due to the technology used in and around the windshield, Acura recommends only using factory glass if your windshield ever needs replacing, so thats good your insurance got it directly from Acura. Most of the time they'll only cover aftermarket glass, but i'm assuming since this is a requirement from Acura, thats why they got you the Acura replacement windshield

We are the windshield reacement capitol of the world. When you have cars with cameras etc the after market shields have brackets built in for attaching the the technology. Even with so-called acoustic glass and heaters you can get it done for $200 here. Once the cloned Chinese made versions are available. They can do it in ten minutes.

I can attest to having bad windshield luck.. had 4 replaced on the GS350 I had in a 2 month span!.. cost me $500 each time for deductible.. Lexus windshields are not cheap

Funny thing... I got my windshield cracked earlier this month from a truck on the highway that kicked up a rather large stone... (very first time this has ever happened to me). Safelite had difficulties getting a windshield in for me so my insurance company allowed an "exception" and I had the windshield replaced directly at the Acura dealership.
I thought I was the first TLX owner that had this happen to them... lol

Why? What are you envisioning not being done right that it wont be as good? Its not like they will install it upside down, or put it in crooked or have to match paint color. This is what glass replacement companies do. Its not hard to do correctly. Also, you hovering over the installer questioning them to make sure its done right on everything they do on something you are unfamiliar with isnt going to make them do it any better

Salesman told me to make sure I had glass coverage because right now Acura is the only one making the glass and that a windshield would set you back 1200$... So how much was it really?

I must disagree with you on a "10 minute" windshield replacement. The adhesive used has a "SDAT", or Safe Drive Away Time. The shortest SDAT currently available is 30 minutes, which most companies don't use. This time starts after the glass replaced into the vehicle, not when the job was started. Run away if someone tells you your car is safe to drive in anything less than 75-90 minutes after the job is stared. I do own an auto glass replacement company.

Point is is just let them do their JOB. (would you go to the body shop and hover over them or stand in the paint booth and question them if they are ding it properly, especially if you havent done an ounce of body work before??) When they are done with the job, go over it before they leave. If you are unsatisfied with the work, find something is wrong, or find something after the fact. Bring it up with them when they are done, or contact the company and have them fix it.

I wish i have an idea how much it cost, i know the State Farm Lynx rep said i may have a deductible because it is OEM and much more expensive.

I would imagine that if there is no alternative other than OEM then that is what it will be replaced with. If you don't already have a deductible, then it should cost you nothing.

For me... before the deductible, it was $702.50..... looks like $593.50 for the glass and $109 sublet cost to the folks that the dealership contracted.

Is it because of hail storms? I was there for summer vacation and the rental agent said I should get the insurance because they replaced 4 windshields yesterday. The waiter in the Calgary Tower told me that Calgarians have hail insurance as an add-on like we have hurricane insurance in South Florida. I did not know about the hail before my trip. Luckily I didn't see hail and did not get the insurance, but I enjoyed a great vacation.
These will break through windshields. There was one baddish one at my house a few years ago - soon after a number of people were getting new roofs - seemed a scam to me - mine was fine. Most years at least one dealership gets their stock smashed by hail. We did in 2006. Though no glass breakage. The insurance companies fund cloud seeding operations out of town, they claim with success.

Once again, I must disagree. You can not remove, clean up the pinchweld area where the old windshield was, prime with primer if necessary and replace the new glass in 10 minutes. This is not a race. Also, do you think that "Tape" will hold the glass in place should an accident occur. There are reasons for allowing sufficient time for the adhesive to "cure" before driving the vehicle. Who ever is giving you this information does not know what they are talking about, however, in our industry there are "hacks" that seem to do very poor quality work and don't care about safety. Suggest you call Crystal Glass in your area and ask them what they think. They are a very reputable company.
