Looks like they skipped the retro idea and just built a 60's muscle car. If this is how it shows up at dealers it could end up being very successful by drawling in older buyers who had muscle cars and younger buyers not pleased with the mustang's vague retro look. It kinda would be like your own personal Foose muscle car...

exactly, i think its a bad idea to produce this thing. If people want this look they can just get an original Charger. Now as far as the mustang goes, its a more modern look w/ retro cues. This thing just looks like a custom Camero....

Thats the thing, people who like the style of the 60's muscle cars have had no option other than to build their own car or sacrifice the qualities that they do like and buy a new car with watered down retro styling.

2010? Daimler-Chrysler really needs to learn how to bring their products to market earlier.

Since everyone else is pointing out the MY 2010 timeframe, I'll jump on the wagon.

When was the last time Honda gave away a picture, or a drawing, or anything before the official release date. That's the proper way to do it.

If everyone knows what insert company name here is doing for the next 5 years, it won't be exciting when the car actually comes out.... Where is the anticipation, where is the excitement... When a civic or TL is about to come out, people are peeing their pants. Coversations, speculating on the design and specs are driving people mad. This is what it's all about...

"... plus possibly an STR8 6.1L version showing up later." LOL, who are they kidding. It's a given, especially since this is Chrysler's musclecar reborn.

Its a concept car for the upcoming auto shows, Honda/Acura have done the same exact thing with the TL and SI concepts. Acura also has the HSC concept pointing towards a model thats years away.

The same applies to Toyota, Lexus and Acura. To a lesser extend it also applies to Mazda and Nissan and Infiniti. Hey, is it coincidental that all of these are Japanese companies?

Well, a little less, since it will be out some time in 2009.

That's how long everyone takes guys. They take about 3-4 years from concept to production. Even the Japanese. The only difference is that the Japanese show concepts that already have been greenlighted internally and it feels like less time from concept to production.

I think the Americans are following a better strategy here. I mean we saw the so-called Civic Concept like months before we saw the production car. That's no concpet, let's be realistic.

The Americans are saying "let the public decide if we will build it" and "show it to them as early as possible so that they tell us what's wrong with it if we are to have time for tweaks with the design".

An example was the Ibuki. It came out about a year before the current generation MX5 and no one liked the concept which resulted in no one been stunned by the current MX5.

That's what Acura does also.

A rare Japanese example was the Nissan Z. They came out with 2 or 3 different concepts. They "listened" to the public, they had great success in the end. Nissan has done the same with the GT-R coming up. This is the second or third concept we saw and we are still years from the production model.

True but I suspect that this car is little more than a two door version of the 300/Magnum/Charger. All the major parts (suspension, tranny, engine, steering, brakes...) are already designed. It should be mostly a matter of designing a new body and the machine tools that stamp them out but I think that's about it.

^ Good point. Who knows. Maybe there is a new platform or a substiantially modified one. However, the interior looks all new to me. I have not seen any current offering carry much of the interior I see in the above pic.

I give it a thumbs up. When I was in high school a kid a couple of years older than me had a Cuda with custom paint and turbine wheels. Loved that car.

I hope they make it and I hope GM makes the Camaro.

I'd wager we'll see this car in production within 24 months. The retro musclecar market is the new niche. Chrysler is pretty aggressive these days, and lets face it, they can afford to be. It's not like GM, who can't afford another flop with the Camaro.
