Progress Rear Sway Bar for '09+ TL FWD
#41
We were going to design an AWD specific bar but no one was interested. I believe the FWD bar fits the AWD TL. If someone is willing to try it I'll give $30 off the price on the website. Just PM me.

I'm guessing that the AWD rear sway bar is LARGER than the FWD TL's rear sway bar... BUT... I think the Progress bar is thicker than the SH-AWD bar.... so ultimately... the Progress rear bar is probably an upgrade for any TL.. assumign it will fit the SH-AWD model...
the question is how much larger is the Progress bar vs the stock SH-AWD bar..such that is it an upgrade worth doing?
I do feel my TL leans too much in turns... a stiffer rear bar would probably help a lot.
what bout strut bars... does anyone make front or rear strut bars for the TL that would be upgrades over any OEM bracing??
the question is how much larger is the Progress bar vs the stock SH-AWD bar..such that is it an upgrade worth doing?

I'm also curious on how much bigger the progress bar is over the sh-awd bar.

Burning Brakes
Just wanted to follow up and see if anyone has put the fwd progress sway on their sh-awd tl. It is 4mm thicker than factory which should make a difference.

coming from a fwd driver.. it makes a difference... sharper turns and you get less body roll but do be careful not to use the stiffer settings or it will rip your rear subframe brackets

However, these stories have me considerably concerned.
Also, other stories on the 3rd gen:

I want to get this for my 09 FWD. Does anybody have an update in regards to a reinforcement bracket so it doesn't damage the subframe as others have mentioned?
Josh (xlr8) can you weigh in on this?

with the stock rsb, you get body roll during turns, but with the bigger rsb, you only feel a slight body roll. keeps your car straight instead of leaning

well... im ok with it.. so you should be.. but i dont recommend it on stiffer setting.. it can potentially rip your subframe like what happen to the other member.

Finally got and installed my RSB. Man what a difference. The whole ride is better. I put it on the soft setting and I'm happy with it so far. Has anybody out there originally put it n the soft setting and changed it to the stiffer setting? Is there much of a difference on the handling, body lean, and overall ride?

^^ try it, see how you like it..
i personally wouldnt do it.. untill they create a subframe reinforce bracket id keep it on soft settings..

Read post #41.
If Excelerate is planning to design an AWD specific bar, this means that the designed-for-FWD rear sway bar may not give significant handling performance boost on the AWD TL.

if i had a awd.. i would shed out that small amount just to test it, worse case.. sell it to another member here and lose a few bucks.. but no one is willing to do it right now for some reason.

Perhaps most are waiting for the genuine designed-for-AWD sway bar set to come out, rather than wasting money on a half-ass rear sway bar with unknown performance gain on their AWD TL.

careful, i was told from one of the fab guys that if not done properly it can weaken the metal that you are welding it to.
im curious on how you would put gussets around that small area. post pic when done..

Excelerate Performance is pleased to announce for Progress Auto the release of the new 09+ TL FWD Rear Sway Bar. See below:
The Progress Group, Inc. has developed a new rear anti-sway bar for the new 2009+ Acura TL. This simple upgrade will dramatically improve driver confidence, the handling capability and chassis balance of this awesome new Acura platform.
The 24mm solid steel alloy rear anti-sway bar features two adjustment holes for tuning the chassis balance. The kit includes all necessary hardware for a complete installation including low-deflection polyurethane bushings, brackets, reinforcement plates and special bushing grease. All Progress anti-roll bars are precision-cold formed and manufactured in-house, and feature an attractive dark-gray metallic powder coat finish. The bar is designed to work with the OEM end-links.
We will have these on the website very shortly - they will be around $150 plus shipping!!!

Chiming in here to close the loop.
Progress had originally made a 24mm rear bar for the TL, which is also shared with the 8th gen Accord and 2nd gen TSX. The 24mm bar was made for use on ALL TL models. Rumblings of making an AWD specific bar were never really official, nor were they necessary.
Indeed Progress themselves found that the 24mm bar was too large for the chassis (and could tear the mount) so it was discontinued, and downsized to a more reasonable 22mm bar. Confusing matters a little bit is that with the change in bar the part number never changed. Heeltoe has sold this 22mm Progress bar 62.0111 for many years for all 4th GEN TL models without a complaint from a single customer. Everyone seems content with the handling and also have not reported breaking.
That all being said, as the last poster has alluded to, the Acura TLX V6 Rear bar has come in vogue as a great replacement as well. Money for diameter it is hard to beat, as it is a 25mm bar. It is not a solid bar though...it performs more like a 22-23mm bar would.
