Looking to Purchase TL in Canada
Hi all,
I'm in the market for a third gen TL. It will likely be 04-06 since the 07-08 are a bit out of my budget. I'm wondering you guys can give me some tips on visual cues that I should watch out for when checking a car out.
I know a bit about the dynamic package but i konw I'm missing some stuff. Can you help fill in other differences? And also, are there only two models, base and dynamic?
- brembo brakes
- sport suspension
- ??
Any other tips on what to look out for would be great. I'm looking in the GTA area in Canada. Looking for 6speed so there aren't many options.
Thanks!!

The Dynamic package came with a 6MT, front Brembos and an LSD. The 5AT (or base) of that year had tranny issues, and didnt come with an LSD or Brembos. That year also had Navi but I find its fairly uncommon to find. I found my 07 TL-S on Kijiji so that'll help if you're looking.
In terms of what to look for, I'd say the standard stuff. All VIN stamps match and checks out online. Make sure all the panels align and no slight difference in colour. Look for rust proof/oil spray since winters/salt can be pretty rapey in the GTA. Underbody/quarters are rust free. If its been modified make sure its been done right with decent parts... that last point may be important as TLs with the 6MT have been sought after by enthusiasts and are much more likely to have been modified.

My budget is 9K or less. I know that doesn't give much to work with but I've seen some decent ones around.
Does anyone know how much roughly an engine replacement parts and labour would cost for the 3G TL non type S? I'm just wondering if it might be worth getting a cheaper one with high mileage and kind of expect a worst case scenario for the engine to crap out and then spend the money to replace the engine.

The engine on the TL will most likely outlast the rest of the car.
