Cupping rear tires

I'm starting to have cupping rear tires much more on the passenger rear and its louder than usual. Got balance and alignment, according to the Acura service manager all suspension components are ok but the cupping continue. Miles 227k never change the struts before. Rotate and balance every 5k. Do you guys think I should still get my struts replace even Acura service manager that it's ok?

Generally the rear tire cupping is seen on these cars due to negative camber. Other possible causes are the struts need replaced or a worn suspension component.

That being said once a tire is cupped it is hard to get the noise to go away since the wear pattern is already stuck with the tire. It is possible that the alignment was out of spec and now that it is back into spec the tire noise will remain.

227k is quiet a long time to go on the factory struts though. I would only replace the struts if they are actually bad. A easy way to test this is what is called a jounce test. You lean on the front of the vehicle putting some weight onto it, then you release all the weight and watch the car. If the vehicle rises and stops the struts are probably fine. If the vehicle comes up and bounces a few times than the struts are worn. The same procedure works for the back as well.

Rear left before -1.7 actual -1.7 CAMBER -2.2 before after -2.2 Rear right Specified range -1.5 -0.5
Rear left 0.08 actual, before 0.13 TOE 0.07 actual, before 0.03 Rear right. Specified range 0.00 0.16

Base on above do I need a camber kit? I moved the rear cupping tire to the front and now it's been about 700 miles and so far no cupping on the rear, but rear is loud. I have the conti dsw and the cupping tire is 6 yrs old with 5/32 remaining. Just for clarification the cupping is only at right rear which is in the front now the left rear never had any cupping or feathering. Please advice thanks.

The cupping tire is 6 years old? If you have 227k on the car and the tire has been on there for 6 years, it's time for a new tire ... period. I'm impressed that it lasted that long.

Loud tires was cause by the broken hub assembly rt only. The cupping rt rear tires no longer seen since the rotation but tech feels it when he run his hands across the tire and said very minor. I'm still thinking about getting those camber kits, I just want to be at spec. Current miles 232k plus miles. So far the car is running great and quiet. Thanks!

Cupping is cause by out of balance tires and/or worn shocks.

Tires - Out of balance tires may be due to defective tires. The tire is defective if the tire balances out to zero but car vibrates when driven. Symptoms of defective tires are cupping, uneven wear, unexpected vibrations. Generally, a tires start to deteriorate around 6/7 years old. If your tires are that old they're a prime suspect.

With the info you provided I would say your problem is both. Worn Tires and shocks.

There was a defective rear component. Acura issued a service bulletin on this. The rear passenger side was involved. Please look at service bulletin below. Hope this helps.

Neg camber doesn't cause cupping of the tire, ever.

I wouldn't go through the effort to do struts unless you have excessive bounce or leakage. 6 years is a long time for a tire - I'd just replace the tires and start fresh. I replaced 6 year old tires about 10,000 miles prior to expected life because they were starting to howl and have strange wear patterns (being military with deployments kept the mileage well below the average for me). I begrudgingly replaced them since it's not exactly a cheap option but new tires and a realignment (that didn't change a whole lot) fixed all my woes. Out of curiosity, how many miles do the tires have on them?

I'm not sure the miles but both rear tires are built on 2010 and the fronts are 2014 & 2012. All four are continental dws.
