RV6 Long Tube Jpipe + KTuner Release Test and Tune Session on 07-09 MDX
RV6™ is excited to introduce new performance parts and ECU tuning options for the 07-09 MDX. Thanks to a local member loaning us his MDX for a couple of weeks we were able to develop dyno proven bolt ons. As well as work with our partner KTuner to provide ECU base maps which will work right out of the box with RV6™ products.
Our test car was tuned using KTuner which allows for the reflashing of the factory ECU maps. The maps we developed on our test car will be included with KTuner purchases. The remapping optimized engine to make power and cleaned up the anomalies in the factory tune which caused dips in power for a smooth power curve.
Currently KTuner only supports the 07-09 MDX we are looking for 2010+ MDXs in Chicago IL or Phoenix AZ area for testing.
The RV6™ Long Tube Jpipe for 07-09 MDX is based off our proven full length runner design for optimized exhaust scavenging in order to have the best off the line response. Our combination of runner length and tubing size produces gains throughout the power band.
At RV6™ we go all-out use the highest quality materials and welding techniques. This Jpipe is made ENTIRELY of high quality 304 stainless steel. That not only includes the tubing but the flanges and flexpipes as well.

- 2.25” Primaries/ 2.5” Outlet
- Full Stainless 304 Construction
- Triple lined Interlock Flex Pipe
- ½” Thick Flanges
- Extra long runners for maximum mid range gains.
- Fully TIG Welded
Due to emission concerns the RV6™ long tube Jpipe was designed as a direct replacement to the restrictive factory Jpipe. This gives you the option to you to maintain the factory 3rd catalytic converter for a 100% road compliant setup. Or replace your 3rd cat with a 200 cell high flow catalytic converter or unrestricted test pipe.
While the Jpipe is new we have had precat deletes (PCDs™) and high flow precats (HFPCs™) for awhile now with many happy customers.

The extra power would really come in handy when cruising in the mountains. I would be interested in how it sounds at WOT, normal driving, and inside the cabin? The MDX is mostly the wifey vehicle and long haul vacation vehicle. Close to factory type noise in cabin at normal cruise would make this on my x-mas list this year.

The purpose of the dyno is the see the change in power. Since the MDX doesn't have full time AWD there are also losses in our mechanically linked dyno. Power gains at the crank are definitely higher however there is no practical way of measuring it.

Me too. Close to 30whp is pretty impressive and doesn't seem peaky for a NA Honda motor either.
Richie, have you done any dyno tests with different intakes with that setup? I'm guessing negligible gains since it wasn't included as part of the kit?

The price for KTuner is locked down. If you guys are looking to by the Jpipe, HPFCs and KTuner send me a email or PM and we can work out a deal.

That's interesting that aftermarket intakes have been causing trouble. I think late model Toyota/Lexus engines run lean with aftermarket intakes. And I read people getting CEL's for putting on an intake that wasn't an BMW part (at least for late model non-turbo engines).
Are RDX's also having issues with aftermarket intakes?

Thanks for the response. Have you seen any gains from larger or more free flowing exhaust without sacrificing the low end or power under the curve? Or do you feel the parts you developed were the main bottleneck of the system?

The factory Jpipe and precats are definitely the biggest restrictions in the system. Honda manufactures the exhaust components with only cost and emissions in mind. They have use the same restrictive core Jpipe design since 03 with the introduction of the 7th gen accord. The stock exhaust is a good size to keep the exhaust velocity up for greatest low and mid range power. Going bigger might help with peak numbers but you will loose some response.

First, just wanted to thank Rich for answering all my questions re: my 2013 MDX. Due to the tough emissions inspections in MA, I went with the HFPC's and Jpipe but kept the factory cat. I had checked with my mechanic and a friend who runs an inspection station and they both advised it would be better not to remove or replace it with a high flow cat. Just had them installed yesterday and what a difference. The response in both D and Sport mode is is great. The MDX is much more responsive on the highway in D and makes it even more fun to drive. I also purchased the K Tuner but will wait to tune until I have driven a few hundred miles. Once I do, I will post my observations. I would highly recommend purchasing from Rich if you are considering adding the Jpipe, HFPC's, etc.

Just KTuned this morning for my 2103. Used the HFPC/exhaust tune. Took it out for a 10 mile drive using both D and Sport mode. The tune makes a big difference. The MDX shifts very smoothly both up and down, especially in Sport mode. Before the tune, the shifts in Sport mode were very abrupt. The acceleration is very much improved in both D and Sport. On the highway in D when I accelerate, the MDX continues to pull aggressively even as you reach higher speeds. I will post again after a few hundred miles. At this time, if you can afford the upgrades, I would highly recommend them.
