This article applies to the Acura TSX (2009-2014).

The transmission fluid isn't part of the basic maintenance intervals; however, it's wise to replace it every 50,000 miles or, if you have a lot of miles on your car, every 30,000 miles. Replacing the transmission fluid in your Acura TSX can ensure all the gears inside of it don't get damaged. Dealerships and auto shops tend to charge a lot of money for any transmission related fixes, but once you realize how doable this procedure is, you will want to save the money and do it yourself. Read on to learn how to replace the automatic transmission fluid in your Acura TSX.

Materials Needed

  • Jack and jack stands
  • Allen head
  • Funnel
  • Drain pan
  • Transmission fluid

Step 1 – Raise the car

Use your jack to raise the car, then use your jack stands to secure it. Raise the car from the front and the rear, then secure it with four jack stands to keep it leveled.

Step 2 – Drain the transmission

Locate the transmission drain plug on the bottom of the transmission, on the driver's side. Place your drain pan under it, then use your Allen head to remove the drain pan. Let the transmission drain completely, then reinstall the drain plug.

Step 3 – Fill transmission with fluid

Use the transmission's dipstick to fill the transmission. Remove the dipstick, insert the funnel where the dipstick sits, then fill the transmission with fresh fluid. The Acura TSX requires 3.5 quarts of transmission fluid. When you're done filling it up, start the car and run through all the gears, then check your transmission dipstick for proper transmission fluid level.
