Materials Needed

  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Wheel chocks

Step 1 – Raise the car

Before doing anything, put your emergency brake on, and if you're only raising the front or only raising the rear, use wheel chocks to secure the wheels. If you're raising the font, locate the jack point in the front center of the car. If you're jacking up the rear, locate the jack point in the back center of the rear. Place the jack on the plate, then raise the car. Make sure you make enough room for the jack stands to go under it.

Step 2 – Secure car with jack stands

Secure the car with at least two jack stands. If you have the front jacked up, place the jack stands along each side of the frame rail, right behind the front wheel. If you're jacking up the rear, place them in front of the rear wheel, again, along both sides of the frame rail. Very slowly and gently lower your car onto the jack stands until it rests on them.

Step 3 – Lower the car

Once you're done doing whatever it is you wanted to do under your car, it's time to bring it back down to earth. Use the same jack points on the front or the rear, then raise your car just enough to get it off of the jack stands. Remove the jack stands away from the car, then lower the car all the way down to the ground.
