This article applies to the Acura TL (2004-2014).

The fuses in your Acura TL are the best go-to when it comes to any electrical issues. Each fuse in your fuse boxes is responsible for one or more of your electrical components. When too much current goes into a fuse, the metal piece inside of it breaks to prevent electrical overheating. Without the fuses, a lot of our cars would be catching on fire due to electrical issues. Whenever something in your car stops working, the fuse boxes are a great place to start. This guide will shine some light on the fuse boxes, how to find your desired fuse, and how to inspect and replace the blown fuses in your Acura TL.

Fuse Box

The Acura TL is equipped with two different fuse boxes. One of the fuse boxes is located under the hood and the other one is located inside the vehicle, in the driver side's foot well. The interior fuse box is responsible for a lot of the interior's components, such as the dome light and stereo, while the exterior is responsible for some of the mechanical components, such as the ignition. Each car routes their wiring differently, and each brand and model could have different fuses in different fuse boxes.

Finding the Correct Fuse

As we mentioned above, each brand and each model have their fuses in different locations. There are two easy ways of finding where the fuse you need is located. The first way to locate the specific fuse is to refer to your owner's manual, under the fuses section. The owner's manual will give you a diagram where you will clearly see where each fuse is located, and what each fuse is responsible for. The second way to locate a fuse is to open the fuse box, then turn the cover over. Each fuse box cover has a diagram, a map if you will, of all the fuses inside of it. So turn the cover and see where the fuse you need is located.

Inspecting and Replacing Fuses

When in doubt, check the fuses. Whenever you have a problem with your car, check the fuse. If you feel like your fuel pump is acting up, check the fuel pump's fuse; if you feel like your dome light bulb is burnt, check your fuses, and same goes for all components that are operated by electrical current. Each fuse has a tiny metal bar inside of it, this bar is where the current flows, so when the current is too much, the bar breaks to save you from an electrical overheat. With this in mind, to inspect a fuse, simply remove it, then look at the bar inside of it. If it's broken, this means you need to replace it, but if it looks like it's still in one piece, then proceed with the diagnostic process because your fuse is working properly. Make sure to always replace the fuses with similar fuses. Most cars will have a spare fuse or two inside the fuse box.
