2011 ZDX Now on Sale
12/21/2010 - TORRANCE, Calif.
The 2011 ZDX four-door sports coupe went on sale today at Acura dealerships with a manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP) starting at $45,645, plus a destination and handling (D&H) charge* of $860.
The ZDX features stunning coupe-like styling with the added benefit of a commanding presence and flexible utility. Staying true to the original prototype, the ZDX features the forward thinking design elements consisting of a panoramic glass roof, hidden rear door handles and bold fender flares.
"The ZDX is like nothing you have ever seen before from Acura," said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. "It combines the best attributes of a coupe, a sedan and a sport utility – all wrapped in a beautifully sculpted package – that will attract an entirely new luxury customer to the Acura brand."
All ZDX models feature as standard a 300 horsepower 3.7L V-6 engine with VTEC®, a Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission, Acura's exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) system and 19x8.5-inch 7-spoke aluminum wheels. Befitting its "sports coupe" design, the 2011 ZDX is lower and has a significantly wider track than its primary market competitors. Adding to the dynamic capabilities of the ZDX is an available Integrated Dynamics System (IDS), which tailors the fully independent suspension's Active Damper System and speed-sensitive steering together to suit the driver's preference for a more comfortable or a more sporting ride— available for easy change at the turn of a dial.
The 2011 ZDX is available in a choice of 3 distinct trim levels: ZDX, ZDX with Technology Package and the ZDX with Advance Package. The ZDX features as standard equipment a hand-stitched leather interior, power-actuated and heated front seats, a dual-zone, dual-mode automatic climate control system with automatic humidity control, rear seat vents, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® connectivity and a high powered audio system (with CD player, AM/FM radio, XM® Radio and USB audio connectivity with iPod® integration). Also standard is the panoramic glass roof, power windows, power tailgate and Xenon HID front headlights.
The ZDX with Technology Package adds an Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™, AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic™ with Traffic Rerouting™, AcuraLink Real-Time Weather™ with radar image maps, a full VGA display screen and an innovative multi-view rear camera. Additionally, the Technology Package includes an upgraded Acura/ELS Surround® 415-watt Premium Audio System with a built-in 15-gigabyte hard disk drive (HDD) media storage system (that allows the ZDX owner to download and store up to 3,500 songs***), a GPS-linked, solar-sensing, dual-zone automatic climate control system and Keyless Access System.
In addition to the features found in the Technology Package, the Advance Package adds several premium technologies including a blind spot information system (BSI), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigating Braking System™ (CMBS™), Integrated Dynamic System (IDS) active damper system, heated and ventilated front seats with Perforated Milano Premium Leather seating surfaces, premium brushed tricot headliner material and a sport steering wheel.

Acura released details regarding its coupe-like 2011 ZDX crossover vehicle just a number of weeks before some automakers think about pulling out early 2012 models.
Why the hesitation? It's probably because sales have been glacially slow for the 2010 ZDX and it's arguably become very expensive showroom furniture this past year. Year-to-date through November, total ZDX sales for the 2010 calendar year barely ticked past 3,000 vehicles. And a recent check with the pricing-intelligence site TrueCar.com found that Acura dealers are unloading the ZDX at a 10-grand discount, typically.
So any price hike for the ZDX, no matter how trivial, is a bit surprising.
Prices on the 2011 Acura ZDX are up by a modest $150 across the board. The price of the base ZDX stands at $45,645, or $50,145 with the Technology Package or $56,195 with the Advance Package.
As several of our editors have reported, the ZDX is 1 of the more perplexing (and perhaps frustrating) packages in recent years. It's drop-dead gorgeous from some angles, yet it lacks practicality in some very basic ways, like adequate headroom or a cargo area that can take paper shopping sacks without obscuring visibility even more. All while the roofline itself is a little too tall, by some tastes, to be called a coupe. Even getting into the back seat is much harder than you'd expect due to the odd cutlines.
Price is likely part of the trouble, too. The ZDX from the start was priced a little too high for its target market—which we would think are younger stylistas: urban gallery owners, clothiers, and the like, as well as a few ad execs and creative directors.
Based on the ZDX's not-so-hot reception in its 1st year of sales, some had suspected that Acura would make some packaging changes to the ZDX in its 2nd year. However, the ZDX carries into 2011 with the same 3 trim levels: ZDX, ZDX with Technology Package, and ZDX with Advance Package.
With the Tech Package, the ZDX gets an ELS Surround auto system; 15 gigabytes of hard-drive storage; dual-zone climate control; a navigation system with voice recognition, real-time traffic, and live rerouting; real-time weather info; and a multi-view rearview camera. As we've found in several drives of the ZDX, you'll need that rearview camera as outward visibility from this curvaceous vehicle is challenging at best.
The Advance Package ZDX gets additional safety measures—a blind spot information system (BLIS) and collision mitigation braking—plus an adaptive cruise control system, the Integrated Dynamic System (IDS) active damper system), heated and ventilated front seats, and upgraded perforated leather upholstery, among other extras.

V8 ZDX would be nice just to shut the reviewers up...and to take some more sales away from the X6.
