Why do we detail our cars?

I was walking back to my car and had one of those "ah ha" moments. This is why we detail our cars. I rarely get a chance to see my car next to "the average black car" but the difference in person is really striking. The iPhone pic does not do this comparison justice but hopefully you can see the difference.

You can alaway tell "us" that do.. I was at a car show today and people were asking/comenting on how I can get a reflection like this in a white car (wdp) , it was a sign that was standing in front of the car.

Told them, like SweetJaz said, its all in the detailing.

Nice pic. As long as the paint is in the shade and the object is illuminated by the sun or other light source you can get great reflections on white.

One neighbor has a black charger and another has a black accord. They hate parking their cars anywhere near mine

I got tired of being nuts about swirls and whatnot, but I have been able to keep a really nice luster with a consistent coat of polymer based waxes every three months. I get compliments on my paint all the time.

At nearly 11 years old...she isn't flawless, but she's pretty durn good overall.

Great thread!

Waxing a car and wheels does wonders if you park in dusty areas.
Everyday I work in a canyon at a shooting range with dirt being kicked up every minute by rounds hitting ground.
A nice wax will see that the dust falls right off the car once I'm on the freeway.
My coworkers cars just cake the dust on.

What detailing products do you use on NBP paint to get all the swirls off?

I don't bother getting swirls out anymore on a hard driven daily, it's too much of a commitment and my neurosis needed a break.

I am for an overall good look from a distance and for that I use wolfgang paint deep sealant about every 4 to 6 months.

At almost 11 years old, she still looks pretty damned good on the original paint. When I did do it though, orange pad with Megs 105 and white pad and Megs 205. Then seal.

Helped clean a friend's new black Mazda3. With a coat of wax, and not too many swirls, black cars really pop.
