Wetsanding on a Non-Acura
Hey guys,
Last night I had the pleasure of helping a good friend with a Neon SRT-4 do some denibbing on his recently repainted hood. I used to do the same kind of work for a bodyshop pretty regularly, so I'm not really a stranger to this kinda thing.
Basic strategy was levelling the nibs with 1500 grit sand paper, follow-up with 3000 grit, knocking down the sanding scratches with Menzerna FG400 and a lake country microfiber cutting pad, and finally FG400 and an orange lake country pad as a finishing step. We intend to ceramic coat car in another few months so it didn't need to be absolutely perfect, but I was blown away with how well FG400 finishes with a softer foam pad.
Here's the results of the first 1500 step. The hood had a few nibs.
Next, after the 3000 grit step. You can see that each step gets larger and larger to ensure the previous step is completely removed.
And finally, after both steps with FG400. The pictures probably don't do this justice, the hood looked absolutely incredible.
For some Acura content here are my Mom's ILX and my TL-S either during or after receiving ceramic coating in the same shop.
