Seat leather problem - can someone give me some advice..?

Hey guys,

Well, I noticed that on the side of the side bolster on the driver's side seat, it's starting to peel. I have a 2007 Hyundai Santa FE Limited with 30k miles. I also have a little portion on top of the seat cover that is also starting to peel, and I brought this up at my last service visit, when I was informed by the service manager that it was "normal wear and tear." However, I now have the side bolster which is peeling and looks absolutely terrible.

So, I called Hyundai's customer care, which is pretty much useless. The lady told me that there is nothing that they can do, and each dealership is independently owned. They're trained to know when something is defective vs. normal wear and tear. I then proceeded to tell them that this is the LAST Hyundai I buy from them, which it is.

So, here's the picture of the side bolster. How is this NOT a defective seat cover? The reast of the seats aren't doing this... Anyway, HOW do I get a dealership to replace this? Are some dealerships better than others? If one tells me that they won't replace it, should I just go to another dealership, or is that a total waste? If someone could offer some advice, that would be great!

Here's the picture!

since each dealership is independently owned and its their call, why not go to another dealership and see if they will cover it?

if they dont then oh well, honestly it doesnt seem that bad to me.

I don't exactly know how to repair that, but I do recommend that you buy some leather cleaner/conditioner and use it every 2 weeks or so, to prevent the seats from being further damaged.

it almost looks like when a bike tire gets a pinch flat, usually when there's not enough air in the tube. It looks like (to me) there isn't enough cushion so the leather creases over when seated and over time the creases gave and split...convince the dealer that and its no longer wear and tear, it's poor design?

Leather / Vinyl Repair

Clean the surface you're going to repair, apply repair compound, and let it dry, then brush or spray on final colour finish. It takes about an hour and you can expect a flexible, long lasting repair. Repair Kit includes: A selection of common pre-mixed and ready to apply colours found on most leather / vinyl products, Repair compound, Adhesive, Sub-Patch material, detailed instructions - Magic Mender ( For range of colours see their Basic colour range)

Hey guys!

Thanks for all of your responses. I managed to get the Service Manager to replace the seat cover - no real argument from him either... So, that's good...
Thanks again!

Just an update!

Hyundai called today - the Service Manager ordered the seat cover immediately after talking to me late Wednesday afternoon. The seat cover came in today, and I'm scheduled to have the new seat cover installed Monday morning.

I'd say that this is pretty impressive service from Hyundai - maybe they're not that bad after all, LOL!

Thank you for the help www.magicmender.com . I actually joined this forum for a similar problem. I just bought a 2004 TSX 79K. On the passenger side there's a small cut in the seats so I'll give this leather repair kit a shot.

My next project will be to try and convert my non Navi TSX to a Navi one. I hope it's not to dificult and doesn't cause to much stress?

Cheers

P.S. I'm a newb so go easy on me

I just bought one and so far I've been treated like Royalty by the service dept and area rep. I'm thrilled with the car.
