Scion FRS Detail + New Car Prep

Hey acurazine. First write-up of the season as I haven't really been doing as much detailing in comparison to last year. Here is another write-up written by my buddy (xbr50) that shows the work we did this past weekend:

Hello again! It has been roughly a year since Vince (v|nsan|ty) and I have detailed another vehicle and have posted a write up as other commitments has consumed most of our time. A good friend of mine contacted me after purchasing a Scion FRS in White Out (or Satin White Pearl) and I figured I could make some time to join in on the FRS/BRZ details. So here it is, yet another FRS new car prep and detail!

I informed the owner about the risk of dealership mishandling of the vehicle and the possible defects they could place on the paint and as a result, he requested the dealership to not "detail" the vehicle for him. As I will discuss later his request was not passed down to every staff that handled the vehicle.

The game plan was primarily exterior work, focusing on a complete wash including the wheels and exhaust tips, a complete decontamination of the paint, spot polishing, and finally Opti-Coat 2.0 and Glass treatment.

Subject:

Initial inspection:

Wheels and wheel wells required a thorough cleaning:

Let's Begin:

We began with the wheels, using Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner:

EZ Detail Brush for the barrels and Swissvax Brush for the face:

The tires was dressed from the dealership, 1z W99 was used to remove this in addition to clean the wheel wells:

W99 was also used for the exhaust tips:

After:

Next, the vehicle was foamed using CG Citrus Wash N Gloss and Maxisuds:

Washed using CG Citrus Wash N Gloss and the two bucket method:

With the wash complete, it was time to start on the decontamination stage. Without doubt the vehicle was transported via rail and as a result the surface was covered with rail dust. CarPro Iron X was utilized to take care of these harmful contaminants (Notice the concentration of the iron contaminants are found on the upper surfaces were they have settled):

We then took the vehicle out to be re-foamed before claying:

We clayed the vehicle using Sonus Ultra-Fine Detailing Clay and Dodo Juice Clay Lube Concentrate (We really need a retailer in Canada to carry the Clay Lube Concentrate by Dodo Juice! It is extremely slick!):

Minor tar contaminants was present still:

Speaking of Tar, the owner stepped on some fresh asphalt and has stained the pedals with tar. W99 did not touch it, however CarPro Tar X did the trick:

Before:

After:

The Paint Correction:
As I have discussed earlier, the owner requested that the dealership not touch the exterior of the vehicle and that he would take delivery of the vehicle without a "detail". Unfortunately the owner did see the vehicle being wiped down by the dealership during a visit to see the vehicle. We painstakingly inspected the vehicle's paint and went defect hunting to repair any defects prior to an Opti-Coat application. The next few photos show the damage (Note the owner did not touch the paint after taking delivery). Defects were dealt with using Menzerna Power Finish on a LC Orange Pad.

Minor defect on the passenger door:

After:

Passenger fender before:

After:

Driver side fender before:

After:

Defects on the hood:

After:

The rest of the vehicle was polished using Sonus Paintwork Cleanser to ensure the paint was absolutely contaminant free:

With the polishing done, the paint was wiped down with CarPro Eraser:

Opti-Coat 2.0 was next to provide tried and true durable protection of the paint:

2-3 Panels were done at a time and taken out in the sun to be inspected for high spots and "rainbows" from over application:

Happy with the results, the wheels were treated as well:

The windows were cleaned and Wolf's Glass Guard was used to provide the glass with Hydrophobic properties:

The finished product:

Looks excellent. Always good to have a nice new car detail after picking up from the swirl-o-ship. Love seeing the work of a local detailer.
