Salt residue on top of clearcoat
Salt residue on top of clearcoat
Hey all, tried searching for an answer to this question, but had a tough time finding...
My mom's brand new venza has very faint salt residue spots on top of the clearcoat. Even after washing/drying they still come back. The car was parked in a parking garage and the spots happened when snow melt mixed with salt dripped on the car and dried. Any advice from those of you who have had to deal with this sort of thing? Products to recommend? Thanks.

Well a paint cleaner would yield further steps needed if any. Even Megs Body Scrub is a start in the right direction. My worry is the alkalines etched in the CC, which may require a light machine polish to alleviate.
(Dry) Salt is inert but be aware that once you add water (by meting the snow / ice) it becomes alkaline (corrosive) take care to dry the affected area thoroughly after the salt has been removed. Neutralize it with mild acid (vinegar) Spray vinegar, agitate, allow to dwell, and then using a micro fibre waffle weave towel to dry. Actually, any mildly acidic product (P21S Total Auto Wash, a d-limonene (citrus) based solvent) should neutralize alkaline salt crystals, hydrochloride etc
