Maybe this thread should be closed. 10% was detailing info and the rest bickering. It's like a car accident, I guess...

There are a lot of very helpful threads already on this stuff anyway.

More like a hit and run, which is a felony. Shame on the nonsense and its point of origin.

No, It wasn't so serious. But then again, Look who started to name-calling, cussing, and being kids first and you'll know the outcome of my reaction. It's a forum, It happens. Don't try to start something that's been ended and get egged on.

Let's move on.

No egging on my part. I'm glad it's over.

Anyway...yes...I'm new to the process and let me tell you, now that I've started...I'm constantly looking at other people's cars and looking for swirling and spiderweb scratches! It's pretty sick...at first glance the car looks great, then I look closer and I'm like tisk tisk...I guess I may have to go the route of the porter cable after all.

My gf thinks it's funny I check out cars more than I do chicks. I will break neck for a car, and go DAMN, THAT'S SEXY and it's always a car. My ex thought I was totally nuts, not like I don't look at women, just don't comment out loud about it much

keeping swirls off your car is a never ending process....and dark cars are the worst...

my kbp after further inspection is again all swirled up...i have polished it to perfection twice a year, and after 6 months of washing it once a week, it will end up swirled again...i use only clean wool mitts, micro fibre drying towels, and it still happens...

i believe the culprit of this last swirl job was an extremely dirty car...

anyway, i dont fret over it as i know i will pull out the udm and polish and 4 hours later it will look perfect again....

Hmmm...how many times can you polish with an abrasive before you make the clear too thin? That's what I was afraid of. Now, I just enjoy the fact that the car looks amazing, even though there are swirls if you look with the sun hittting it directly.

A paint thickness gauge (PTG) would be able to tell you how much clear you'd have left to work with.

I was waitin on a question like this and have been reading and searching on the forums here and other websites on different ideas, methods, and products. From how this thread kinda veered off the freeway, I'll probably stick to the old PM method .

I am new to this whole detailing hobby and try to keep up with you veteran detailer's. I find myself walking around the car and just spotting more and more scratches everyday.

In the meantime, I'm gonna figure out why this rock promises to remove swirls but just doesn't seem to be working

i dont use anything that is agressive on my car, i use things like pinnacles advanced finishing polish, optimum poliseal, xmt 360...all of which are very mild and only work on very minor swirl marks...if i need to remove a heavier defect, i use something more agressive...using the mild polishes above will remove very very little clear if any at all...

I have to say that if it's not going to hurt anything I will have to give the PC a try. I am pretty happy with the results but I did not get ALL the swirls out.

I'm a zaino guy for now...I really love the products. Anyone here ever use a PC to apply the Z-PC product? It's a mild polishing compound but I want to know if it's equivalent to any of the aforementioned ones.

I may have to make that investment then...a light cut is all I really wanted to achieve...I did it by hand and it still has some marks...I don't want to take off a big layer of clear and I don't have a paint thickness measurer!

unless your taking sandpaper or a really heavy cut polish/agressive pad combo, your not going to remove very much clearcoat....a pc just doenst have that kind of power....

Hmmm...so even if you do this to your car every 6 months...with a mild abrasive...you'll never hit the paint!??! That's what it sounds like to me!

Well with a PC it'd be hard to. However with a rotary, that's a different question. Don't be completely at ease though because it's still possible to burn through your paint with a PC and a 4" pad with heavy pressure and compound in the same spot/area. To get this to happen though, you'd have to have the intention of burning your paint from the get-go.

and that is exactly why you need the pc/udm....you think your car looks good by hand, just wait till you get a pc/udm and you will see what all the hype is about...i was you 1 year ago....

Well excel is the one that tried to point me in the right direction, but you know how that goes...people will always try the cheap easiest method first. I wish I hadn't put on 2 coats of Z-5 and 2 coats of Z2 at thos point though...although I have to say my right shoulder is looking quite muscular. I'll probably give this another whirl with the PC once I forget how much work it was (11 hours a few weeks ago).

I think I will attempt a PC with the Z-PC product for now...if that doesn't "cut it" (so to speak), what would be the next product to attempt in the line of aggressiveness. I want to keep it mild if possible.

Also, I've always liked using a carwash brush on a pole for washing. Am I safe with this (assuming I buy one for JUST my car and no one else's). Then drying with a california water blade and "the absorber". I don't want to go on the mission removing swirls to put them back on later.

Im not sure what Zaino offers in the way of polishing, but as I tell the majority of PC/UDM newcomers, start simple and light. I normally recommend Optimum Polish and/or Compound with white and/or orange pads. This is a real light setup, which will get most wash and dry induced swirls/marring out. Its a base level which (if not completely successful) will allow the user a level to determine what steps may further be needed.

The only abrasive polish they offer is Z-PC, which I'm told is a very light one. Maybe I'll get the PC/UDM and start there. If it isn't enough, I'll take it up a notch. This really is a time consuming and expensive craft. Ignorance might have been better! Lol.

Yeah, Zaino doesn't really offer any paint correction products, AFAIK.

Technically Z-PC is for paint correction...and it does work. Just definitely not as well as done with a PC. At least that is my understanding. I haven't read anything elsewhere about z-pc...i just saw it on their site and gave it a shot. maybe it's new?
