No egging on my part. I'm glad it's over.
Anyway...yes...I'm new to the process and let me tell you, now that I've started...I'm constantly looking at other people's cars and looking for swirling and spiderweb scratches! It's pretty sick...at first glance the car looks great, then I look closer and I'm like tisk tisk...I guess I may have to go the route of the porter cable after all.

keeping swirls off your car is a never ending process....and dark cars are the worst...
my kbp after further inspection is again all swirled up...i have polished it to perfection twice a year, and after 6 months of washing it once a week, it will end up swirled again...i use only clean wool mitts, micro fibre drying towels, and it still happens...
i believe the culprit of this last swirl job was an extremely dirty car...
anyway, i dont fret over it as i know i will pull out the udm and polish and 4 hours later it will look perfect again....

Hmmm...how many times can you polish with an abrasive before you make the clear too thin? That's what I was afraid of. Now, I just enjoy the fact that the car looks amazing, even though there are swirls if you look with the sun hittting it directly.

I was waitin on a question like this and have been reading and searching on the forums here and other websites on different ideas, methods, and products. From how this thread kinda veered off the freeway, I'll probably stick to the old PM method
.
I am new to this whole detailing hobby and try to keep up with you veteran detailer's. I find myself walking around the car and just spotting more and more scratches everyday.
In the meantime, I'm gonna figure out why this rock promises to remove swirls but just doesn't seem to be working

i dont use anything that is agressive on my car, i use things like pinnacles advanced finishing polish, optimum poliseal, xmt 360...all of which are very mild and only work on very minor swirl marks...if i need to remove a heavier defect, i use something more agressive...using the mild polishes above will remove very very little clear if any at all...

I have to say that if it's not going to hurt anything I will have to give the PC a try. I am pretty happy with the results but I did not get ALL the swirls out.
I'm a zaino guy for now...I really love the products. Anyone here ever use a PC to apply the Z-PC product? It's a mild polishing compound but I want to know if it's equivalent to any of the aforementioned ones.

Well with a PC it'd be hard to. However with a rotary, that's a different question. Don't be completely at ease though because it's still possible to burn through your paint with a PC and a 4" pad with heavy pressure and compound in the same spot/area. To get this to happen though, you'd have to have the intention of burning your paint from the get-go.

yeah...i think i'm in the clear in that respect. Overall I'm happy with the results I got by hand...looks amazing...only thing that sucks is to see the specks of blue pearl you have to look in the sunlight or under bright fluo lights which is also where you will see....ta da da...SWIRLS.

Well excel is the one that tried to point me in the right direction, but you know how that goes...people will always try the cheap easiest method first. I wish I hadn't put on 2 coats of Z-5 and 2 coats of Z2 at thos point though...although I have to say my right shoulder is looking quite muscular. I'll probably give this another whirl with the PC once I forget how much work it was (11 hours a few weeks ago).
I think I will attempt a PC with the Z-PC product for now...if that doesn't "cut it" (so to speak), what would be the next product to attempt in the line of aggressiveness. I want to keep it mild if possible.
Also, I've always liked using a carwash brush on a pole for washing. Am I safe with this (assuming I buy one for JUST my car and no one else's). Then drying with a california water blade and "the absorber". I don't want to go on the mission removing swirls to put them back on later.

The only abrasive polish they offer is Z-PC, which I'm told is a very light one. Maybe I'll get the PC/UDM and start there. If it isn't enough, I'll take it up a notch. This really is a time consuming and expensive craft. Ignorance might have been better! Lol.

Technically Z-PC is for paint correction...and it does work. Just definitely not as well as done with a PC. At least that is my understanding. I haven't read anything elsewhere about z-pc...i just saw it on their site and gave it a shot. maybe it's new?
