Problem with Cat...or at least what I think it is

I have been getting paw marks on the hood, and sometimes roof. I've been playing detective at night, but never actually see one. I even parked my car really close to the front wall, but it appears to be able to get on it from the side. Any good ideas to repel this cat?

I've read some articles about the use of car repellent sprays, moth balls, or cayenne papers, etc, but I am not sure which one works best.

I am pretty sure that it has caused thousands of micro scratches.

I had the same problem a bit ago ... I fot a bottom fitted sheet for a crib from the thrift store ..$1 .. and hooked 2 of the elastic ends over the edge of the hood by the windshield. The other 2 ends I tied a bit of cord to them and bent some wire for hooks and tied them to the cords then hooked them under the front bumper at the corners.

The trunk I laid a small blanket over it when open and just folded the ends in the trunk and shut it .. seems to have scared the cat off.

you could also lay a couple mouse traps bated with meat/cat food on the blanket on the trunk .. one snap and they loose interest.

The sheet idea by Dale sounds good. I would also add a few small cups/glasses of ammonia or other cat repellent type of liquid on the hood, trunck, etc. The cat will jump up, take a wiff, and leave shaking its head in disgust. Once a cat knows that it stinks up there on the car then it will move on to something else like poopin in your flower bed. Cats are very regimented in these kind of activities until they feel really threatened or annoyed with a bad smell.

Thanks. I like this idea, since it gives the car the needed protection, rather than trying to keep the cat away, which could be impossible..although I have to think twice about how long it will take to put this sheet on and off every night and morning. I am sharing garage space with others, so I don't think they will be happy with me putting mouse traps there

Yeah, I put some moth balls around the area now + skunk pee repellent. May be I'll try ammonia too, but this could get dangerous if it drops on to the paint, right? My neighbours by now have probably noticed this weird smell I caused in the garage.

Ok, moth balls and the coyote pee spray did not work...I was pissed yesterday to find the paw marks on my car again. This time, it went up to the roof and slept around the moonroof, then went down from the back of the car.

I heard they don't like citrus / orange smell.

Does anyone know any car wax or polish or a good car wash that have some kind of strong orange / citrus smell?

I do it all the time and its no more then a minute or 2. Well worth the time.
Why would mouse traps bother them .. they aren't on the floor ... set them on the trunk. And if its thier cat ... tough crap.

I had a rental neighbor that had a cat that was going on my car .. I mentioned it to him to deal with it before I did .. Two days later he got a second cat .. I said geez ... now your going to add to the problem ... he said "no, this is an indoor cat .. will never go outside". A month later it was digging in my flowers so I shot it with a pellet gun. He was watching over the fence and said" Hey what the hel you doing .. you just shot my cat" I said nope ... wasn't your cat ... yours is an inside cat .. never goes outside ... this cat was outside .. couldn't be yours.

Another option is to trap it. I have done this before. SPCA rents traps. I just made my own. Relocation program...
