Play With Fire Long Enough...

....and eventually you'll get burned.

I made my first boo-boo with the rotary tonight. I knew it was inevitable but knowing it will eventually happen doesn't help you prepare for how you'll feel once it does. Around 11:30 I was feeling spunky and decided to polish out a bit more of the Santa Fe's lower door panels. These areas still had the signature marks from the swirl-o-tron that my sister took the car through back when we shared it (the dark days). Right as I got the buffer (Makita using a 4" Orange pad) to the base of the door, the though that I should have masked off the plastic cladding floated through my mind. Too late. At that very moment, the edge of the pad grabbed the top of the plastic and burned the paint. It's not so much a burn as it is an ugly wrinkle and while I can't say I'm necessarily angry, I'm not happy, either.

On the upside, it could have been much worse or even worse still, on a customer car. Needless to say, it was a total mood killer and I stopped right there. I just didn't have the drive to finish the job so I'll do it again.

Here are a few pics of the damage:

These two are out of focus and blurry but you get the idea. It was hard to capture.

Good lesson for the noob that wants to buy a cheap rotary and get right at it ... even the pros can cause issues.

Thanks for the support guys. You really can't even see it in the light and I've learned my lesson on this one.
