Paint damage, or clear damage?

http://media.photobucket.com/image/c...n/DSC00225.jpg

That isn't my car (so I didn't post the pic itself), but I have something very similar. I kept thinking it was paint damage, until I was testing the hose yesterday. When wet, it looks almost normal.

With what you see there, is there any home remedy? This is my old car, one I'm currently trying to sell. If I could spend a little bit of money to get a bigger return, I'm certainly interested. I'm not at the point, however, where I want to do a repaint.

It's a 1997 Accord with *I think* Cypress Green Pearl. It's the only green paint code I could find. I can upload some pictures tonight if it helps. Area of concern is before and after the sunroof.

Thanks.

I see cars like this all day long, and I hate to say it (but I have many a times) they are usually Hondas, some Dodges, and Yotas.
Its not necessarily a CC failure as much as it is just the cheap painting. Its lived its life. It probably could have been saved with proper treatment and care though. This is what happens over time with U.V. exposure.
As for remedying, theres not a lot you can do....What you seal up today, will be gone in several weeks, if that, and the ugly truth will return (short of a repaint).

Yeah, my sister didn't take great care of it. I wouldn't mind it looking better in the short term to get the sale (I'd tell them, of course).

Any cash I get for it might buy me a HDTV.

If he wanted it to be a bit better, couldn't he just wetsand through the clear, compound/polish up the base and spray some clear onto it, then wetsand lightly again to make it smooth? Its a bit of work, but couldn't it be done?

I'd certainly be up for trying it. I'm only expecting to get around $600 for it, I couldn't do much harm.

Unless you really know much about painting, I would leave that task up to a pro.......
